Askvoll Frivilligsentral is a voluntary centre based in Askvoll, a small coastal municipality in western Norway. Together with sending organisation ICJA – Freiwilligenaustausch Weltweit, they are offering one ESC volunteer the chance to grow through non-formal learning while contributing meaningfully to local community life.

What Is This Role About?

The core idea behind this placement is simple: the volunteer gains new skills and life experience, and the local community gains a wider understanding of other cultures. It is a genuine exchange — not a one-sided service role.

You will learn how Norwegian coastal culture works from the inside. You will see how schools and kindergartens function, how voluntary organisations are structured, and what everyday life actually looks like in a small Norwegian municipality. And you will be encouraged to bring your own ideas to the table too.

Activities

Activities vary throughout the year depending on the season and community needs. As a volunteer you will be involved across a wide range of social settings:

🏫 Supporting activities in kindergartens and schools

👴 Working at an elderly home

♻️ Contributing to a second-hand shop

🚴 Supporting a sport equipment rental (BUA)

🎉 Participating in occasional community projects and events

💡 Taking self-initiated projects — if you have an idea, you are encouraged to run with it

Training & Support

You will not be navigating this alone. The support structure at Askvoll is personal and practical.

👩‍💼 An English-speaking manager responsible for supervising your work, answering questions, and providing day-to-day support

🧠 An English-speaking mentor available for psychological support, conflict mediation, and helping you integrate into local society — with regular check-in meetings
