Whether youโre joining anย Erasmus+ย project or anย ESC volunteering experience, a bit of preparation can make your journey smooth, fun, and unforgettable! ๐๐ซ
Hereโs everything you need to know before you go! ๐
๐งณ 1. Travel Documents & Insurance

Passport or ID: Make sure itโs valid for the entire travel period (and ideally a few months beyond).
๐ Visa: If required for your host country, your organisation will help you with the process.
๐งพ European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) โ or private health insurance if youโre from a non-EU country.
๐งณ ESC Participants: Youโre automatically covered by CIGNA insurance via the European Solidarity Corps.
Keep digital and printed copies of all documents โ just in case! ๐
๐ฐ 2. Financial & Practical Preparations
๐ถ Check how your grant or pocket money will be paid (before or after arrival).
๐ฆ Open a bank account that works abroad or activate your international card.
๐ฌ Keep a small amount of local currency for your first few days.
๐ฑ Check if your phone plan works across Europe โ or get a local SIM card.
Budget wisely and keep a small emergency fund โ just in case of surprises! ๐๐ก
๐ก 3. Accommodation & Arrival
๐ Your hosting organisation or project will arrange your stay (flat, dorm, or host family).
๐ฌ Confirm your arrival time and pickup details with them before you travel.
๐ฌ Save their address, phone number, and email in your notes and phone.
๐งญ Use Google Maps or Maps.me offline so you can navigate even without internet!

๐ 5. Cultural Preparation
๐ฌ Learn a few words in the local language โ it shows respect and helps you connect.
๐ช๐บ Be open-minded and ready for cultural differences.
๐ฅ Try local food, join community events, and explore your host city.
๐ Remember: youโre not just visiting โ youโre living an experience!
