Whether you’re joining an Erasmus+ project or an ESC volunteering experience, a bit of preparation can make your journey smooth, fun, and unforgettable! 🌍💫
Here’s everything you need to know before you go! 👇
🧳 1. Travel Documents & Insurance
✅ Passport or ID: Make sure it’s valid for the entire travel period (and ideally a few months beyond).
📄 Visa: If required for your host country, your organisation will help you with the process.
🧾 European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) – or private health insurance if you’re from a non-EU country.
🧳 ESC Participants: You’re automatically covered by CIGNA insurance via the European Solidarity Corps.
Keep digital and printed copies of all documents — just in case! 💙
💰 2. Financial & Practical Preparations
💶 Check how your grant or pocket money will be paid (before or after arrival).
🏦 Open a bank account that works abroad or activate your international card.
💬 Keep a small amount of local currency for your first few days.
📱 Check if your phone plan works across Europe — or get a local SIM card.
Budget wisely and keep a small emergency fund — just in case of surprises! 🌍💡
🏡 3. Accommodation & Arrival
🏠 Your hosting organisation or project will arrange your stay (flat, dorm, or host family).
🛬 Confirm your arrival time and pickup details with them before you travel.
💬 Save their address, phone number, and email in your notes and phone.
🧭 Use Google Maps or Maps.me offline so you can navigate even without internet!

Before you go, read the Info Pack or project description carefully! 🗂️✨
Learn about:
🎓 The hosting organisation and their activities
👫 Other participants and their countries
📅 The daily schedule and what’s expected from you
If you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact your sending or hosting organisation — they’re there to help! 🤝🇪🇺
🌍 5. Cultural Preparation
💬 Learn a few words in the local language — it shows respect and helps you connect.
🇪🇺 Be open-minded and ready for cultural differences.
🥐 Try local food, join community events, and explore your host city.
💙 Remember: you’re not just visiting — you’re living an experience!
🎒 6. What to Pack
