A space where youth workers grow, share, and shape the future of young people — together. 🌍💪
Erasmus+ Youth Participation Activities are all about one simple idea: young people leading change. 💥
This action supports projects where young people don’t just join activities – they design, shape and influence them. It gives space for youth voices, ideas and solutions on real issues: climate, equality, digital life, mental health, local problems, European priorities and more. 🌍
These are not just classic youth exchanges or training courses.
They are more about:
- 🗳️ Participation in democratic life
- 🗣️ Dialogue with decision-makers
- 💡 Youth-led initiatives and campaigns
- 🤝 Building stronger, more inclusive communities
🔥 What Can a Youth Participation Project Look Like?
Think of projects such as:
- 💬 Youth forums, debates or town hall meetings with local authorities
- 📲 Digital campaigns on topics that matter to young people
- 🎥 Podcasts, videos or social media projects giving young people a voice
- 📚 Workshops on media literacy, critical thinking, human rights & democracy
- 🧩 Local action plans where young people identify a problem and create solutions
- 🤝 Cross-border projects connecting youth from different countries to work on shared challenges
All with one rule: young people are at the center – planning, making decisions, taking responsibility.
👥 Who Is It For?
- Young people aged roughly 13–30 who want to be active, heard and involved
- Youth with fewer opportunities, whose voices are often missing, are a key priority
- Youth workers, NGOs, schools, municipalities and informal groups who want to work with young people, not just for them
🏆 What Support Does Erasmus+ Offer?
Erasmus+ can help with:
- ✅ Project management & activity costs
- ✈️ Travel and accommodation (if there are mobility elements)
- 🤲 Inclusion support so everyone can participate
- 📣 Communication, visibility and digital tools
Details, budgets and rules are explained each year in the Erasmus+ Programme Guide and National Agency guidelines.
🚀 Why Does It Matter?
Because Youth Participation Activities:
- Give young people a real seat at the table
- Turn ideas into visible impact in their city, region or country
- Build skills in leadership, teamwork, advocacy and creativity
- Connect young people with institutions, organisations and European values
If you’re thinking: “We see a problem. We have ideas. We want to act.”
Then Erasmus+ Youth Participation Activities are exactly your playground. 💫

🇪🇺 What is a Motivation Letter in ESC?
A motivation letter (also called a cover letter or personal statement) is your personal introduction to the hosting organization. It’s where you tell who you are, why you want to volunteer, and why you’re a great fit for the project. It’s the most important part of your ESC application — sometimes even more important than your CV!
🔍 Why is it so important?
Because ESC projects are not looking for “perfect” candidates — they want to understand your personality, intentions, and motivation.
Your letter tells them:
- Why you’re excited about this experience
- What you can contribute to the project
- How the project aligns with your goals and values
A strong motivation letter can help you stand out from dozens of applicants.
🧭 How to Structure Your ESC Motivation Letter
Use this simple 4-part format:
1. 🧑💼 Introduction – Who are you?
Start with your name, age, nationality, and current status (student, recent graduate, job seeker, etc.). Mention where you found the project and that you’re excited to apply.
Example:
My name is Laura, I’m a 22-year-old psychology student from Spain. I discovered your ESC volunteering project on the European Youth Portal and I’m very excited to apply because of its focus on mental health and youth empowerment.
2. 🤩 Why do you want to join THIS project?
- Be specific about the topic (e.g., sustainability, youth work, inclusion)
- Mention any connection to the country, organization, or theme
- Say how it fits your values or interests
Example:
I’ve always been passionate about environmental protection. Your project’s goal of creating eco-awareness among children in rural Romania perfectly matches my interests and past volunteering work with school gardens in my hometown.
3. 🎯 What can you bring to the project?
- Highlight your soft skills (teamwork, creativity, communication)
- Mention any relevant experience
- Talk about your willingness to learn and grow
Example:
I’m a very social and creative person, with experience organizing workshops and working in international teams. I love learning from others and adapting to new cultures. I believe I can bring positive energy, fresh ideas, and commitment to your team.
4. 🌱 What do you hope to gain?
- Say what you want to learn or experience
- Mention how the project will help your personal or professional growth
- End with a warm, grateful tone
Example:
I’m looking forward to stepping out of my comfort zone, discovering Romanian culture, and growing as a young adult. I believe this experience will help me become more independent, empathetic, and socially responsible.
✅ Do’s and Don’ts
✔️ Do:
- Be honest and authentic
- Keep it simple and positive
- Show enthusiasm
- Use your own voice — don’t copy from others
- Keep it between 250–400 words
❌ Don’t:
- Use generic or vague phrases like “I want to improve myself” without examples
- List your full CV — this is not a resume!
- Try to sound “perfect” — they want real people
✨ Final Tips from Former Volunteers
“They want to know the real YOU. Just write like you’re talking to a friend.”
— Sofia, ESC volunteer in Italy
“I mentioned my favorite hobbies and even my fears. They loved it because it felt real.”
— Emil, ESC volunteer in Poland
💡 Motivation Letter = Your personality on paper!
It’s not about having a perfect background — it’s about showing your interest, attitude, and potential. The more YOU you put into it, the more memorable your letter will be. 🙌
Looking for an internship, ESC project, Erasmus+ mobility, or your first international job?
The Europass CV is your best friend. It’s the official, standardised European CV format used across Europe – clear, simple, and easy to read. Here’s how to create a strong one step by step. 💼✨
1. Start in the Right Place
Go to the official editor:
You can create your CV online, update it anytime, and download it as PDF.
2. Basic Information – Keep It Clean
- ✏️ Full name
- 🌍 Country & city (full address not always needed)
- 📧 Professional email (no nicknames)
- 📱 Phone (with country code)
- 🔗 Optional: LinkedIn or portfolio
No need for: marital status, religion, full home address, or irrelevant personal details.
3. Job / Opportunity You’re Aiming For
Right under your name, add a short “Desired position / Field” line:
- “ESC Volunteer – Youth Work & Community Projects”
- “Erasmus+ Trainee – Digital Marketing”
- “Master’s Applicant – International Relations”
This helps organisations understand your focus in one second. 🎯
4. Work Experience – Be Specific, Not Dramatic
List your experiences in reverse chronological order (latest first).
For each role:
- Dates (month/year – month/year)
- Organisation, city, country
- Role / position
- 3–5 bullet points with clear, concrete tasks & results
Example:
Supported social media campaigns, answered participant emails, helped coordinate Erasmus+ events for 80+ young people.
Use action verbs: Organised, Supported, Managed, Created, Coordinated, Led, Designed, Facilitated.
5. Education & Training – Show What Matters
Include:
- Degree / programme name
- Institution, country
- Dates
- Relevant courses, projects, thesis (if useful for the opportunity)
If you’re still studying, write:
“Ongoing – expected graduation: 2026”.
6. Skills – Make Them Real, Not Random
Use the Europass sections for:
- 💬 Language skills – be honest (B1/B2/C1 etc.)
- 🛠️ Digital skills – e.g. MS Office, Canva, CapCut, Google Workspace, social media management, basic coding
- 🤝 Soft skills – teamwork, communication, time management, problem-solving
- 🌍 Intercultural skills – from exchanges, volunteering, international work
Always connect skills to real experiences. If you write it, be ready to prove it.
7. Volunteering & Non-Formal Learning – Big Plus ✅
Erasmus+, ESC, local NGOs, student clubs, youth councils: put them in!
Examples:
- “ESC Volunteering in Portugal – community activities, workshops, social media”
- “Youth Exchange on climate action – teamwork, public speaking, international cooperation”
This is often more important than classic work experience for youth opportunities.
8. Layout Rules – Simple, Professional, Easy to Scan
- Use max 2 pages (1 page is perfect for most students/young people)
- Use the official Europass layout – it’s already clean and accepted everywhere
- Use one font style, no crazy colours, no photos unless required
- Save and send as PDF
9. Common Mistakes to Avoid
🚫 Long essays – recruiters don’t have time
🚫 Copy–paste buzzwords with no proof
🚫 Unprofessional email (use name.surname format)
🚫 Old or wrong information
🚫 Grammar and spelling mistakes
Always double-check before sending.
10. Final Tip: Adapt for Every Opportunity
Do not send the same CV to everything.
- Highlight different skills for an ESC project vs. a research internship
- Move the most relevant experiences to the top
- Adjust your “Desired position / Field” line each time
Your Europass CV is a living document – update it as you grow. 🚀
Your adventure is about to begin — how exciting! 🎒✨

Full access to most Erasmus+ & ESC actions
Managed through National Agencies
Usually eligible as applicants and participants
Partner Countries 🌎
Countries outside the main programme area (e.g. many countries in the Balkans, Eastern Europe, Southern Mediterranean, Africa, Asia, Latin America).
Can participate in specific actions
Often involved as partners, with different rules
Always check if the call is open to them
When reading a call, always look for:
“Eligible countries:” or “Open to: Programme Countries / Partner Countries.” ✅
🧭 Organisations & Roles

Your support organisation in your home country.
Helps you understand the project

Hosting Organisation 🏡
The organisation in the country where the activity takes place.

Supports your learning and well-being
Coordinating Organisation 🧩
The project manager.
Applies for EU funding
Manages the budget and reporting
Coordinates all partners and communication
Ensures rules and quality standards are respected
📂 Key Documents & Application Essentials
Infopack 📘✈️
Your official project guide. A good infopack includes:
Project topic & objectives
Dates & city / country
Activities & methods
Travel budget and reimbursement rules
Accommodation & meal details
Participant profile (age, country, skills)
Application steps & deadline
If any of these are missing, ask for clarification before applying.
Motivation Letter 💌
Your personal “this is why I belong in this project” statement.
Keep it:
Short, clear, honest
Connected to the specific project topic
Focused on what you bring + what you want to learn
Written in proper English (no copy-paste templates)
Europass CV 📄💼
The official European CV format used for Erasmus+, ESC, internships, scholarships.
Clean structure, easy to read
Recognised by most organisations and universities
Simple to update online and download as PDF
Many quality calls will ask specifically for a Europass CV.
Call for Participants 📣
The official announcement for a confirmed project.
A serious call normally includes:
Project type (Youth Exchange, ESC Volunteering, Training Course, etc.)
Topic and main activities
Eligible countries and age range
Funding conditions (what is covered / any fee)
Application link or form
Clear deadline and contact details
If the call is vague, missing key info, or looks “too good to be true” with no details: be careful.
Deadline ⏰
The final time your application must be submitted.
Sometimes includes an exact hour and time zone
Late applications are usually not accepted
Always assume the deadline is strict
🎓 Learning, Skills & Recognition
Youthpass 🎓
The official recognition certificate for many Erasmus+ & ESC activities.
It:
Describes the project you joined
Highlights your learning outcomes and competences
Supports your CV, job, scholarship, or university applications
It’s not just a paper; it’s a tool to reflect on what you really learned.
Learning Outcomes / Competences ⭐
The concrete things you gain through participation, such as:
🗣️ Communication & public speaking
🤝 Teamwork & cooperation
🌍 Intercultural awareness
🧠 Critical thinking & problem solving
💡 Digital, environmental, leadership or entrepreneurial skills
High-quality projects are clear about what participants are expected to learn.
Non-Formal Education (NFE) 🎲
The main educational style used in Erasmus+ & ESC.
It means:
Learning by doing
Workshops, simulations, games, debates
Creative tasks, group projects, real-life challenges
Active participation instead of passive listening
Good projects use non-formal education in a structured, meaningful way.
🤝 Inclusion, Access & Support
Inclusion & Fewer Opportunities 🤍
Refers to young people who face additional obstacles:
Economic difficulties
Geographical barriers (remote / rural areas)
Social exclusion or discrimination
Educational challenges
Health conditions or disabilities
Many projects:
Prioritise including such participants
Offer extra financial, logistical, or mentoring support
Adapt activities to make participation possible for everyone
Real inclusion is practical and visible, not just a buzzword.
Green Travel 🌱🚆
Choosing more environmentally friendly travel options whenever possible:
Train, bus, car-sharing instead of short flights
Combining routes smartly
Many projects:
Offer extra travel days
Provide slightly higher travel budgets
to encourage sustainable options.
Co-funding / Participant Contribution 💶
Most Erasmus+ & ESC opportunities:
Cover travel (up to a limit), accommodation, food, and activity costs.
Sometimes:
A small participation fee
Or partial travel coverage
This must always be:
Clearly explained in the call or infopack
Transparent and justified
Hidden or unclear costs are a warning sign.
If you understand these terms, you’re already two steps ahead of most applicants.
Next time you see an opportunity on YouthWorks Hub, use this dictionary to quickly check if everything looks legitimate, fair, and aligned with real Erasmus+ & ESC standards. 💙
Thinking of joining a European Solidarity Corps (ESC) project abroad?
Then you might have heard the term “supporting organization” – but what does it actually mean? 🤔
Let’s break it down in a fun and easy way! 👇
🧭 1. What Is a Supporting Organization?
A supporting organization is the organization that helps you – the volunteer – in your home country 🇹🇷🇪🇸🇧🇬🇮🇹, before, during, and even after your ESC volunteering experience abroad. 🌍
📌 You might also see it called:
- Sending Organization (older name 🕰️)
- Home Country Partner 🏡
💡 It’s the team that helps you prepare for the experience and supports you when you’re volunteering in another country!
🤝 2. What Does a Supporting Organization Actually Do?
Think of them as your ESC Buddy Team! 👯♂️
They guide and assist you every step of the way:
Before the Project Starts:
📝 Help you apply
📞 Talk you through your expectations
🎓 Organize pre-departure training
📚 Provide you with the ESC Info Kit
During the Project:
📧 Stay in contact with the hosting organization
🙋 Be available in case you have problems or concerns
🌍 Sometimes visit you (if agreed in the project)
After the Project:
🗣️ Debriefing and reflection
🏅 Help you fill out your Youthpass certificate
📢 Involve you in future ESC or local activities
🏠 3. Supporting Org vs. Hosting Org – What’s the Difference?
| 🔎 Role | 🛡️ Supporting Organization | 🎯 Hosting Organization |
|---|---|---|
| 🌍 Location | Your country 🇹🇷🇧🇬🇵🇹🇫🇷 | The destination country 🇪🇸🇩🇪🇮🇹🇸🇰 |
| 🧭 Responsibilities | Guidance, mentoring, preparation 🧠 | Accommodation, daily tasks, logistics 🛏️🍽️ |
| 📞 Communication Bridge | Connects you with your host 🤝 | Organizes your daily experience 💼 |
They collaborate closely so your volunteering journey goes as smoothly as possible! 💬✨
👤 4. Why Is the Supporting Organization Important?
🎒 For you, the volunteer:
- Someone has your back before you travel 🌟
- You’re not alone during difficult moments abroad 🤗
- You’ll reflect better after the experience – and grow! 🌱
🔧 For project organizers:
- Helps manage logistics 📦
- Supports communication with partner organizations 📤
- Ensures quality, safety, and impact 🔍
🏅 5. Who Can Be a Supporting Organization?
Any ESC-accredited organization with a valid Quality Label can act as a supporting organization. ✔️
🎯 Requirements:
- Have a team that knows ESC rules 🧠
- Provide mentorship and training 💬
- Communicate regularly with the hosting partners 💌
📍 You can find accredited supporting organizations on the European Youth Portal
📝 6. Want to Join an ESC Project?
Great! Here’s how the Supporting Organization helps you:
👉 Find a project that matches your passion 💖
👉 Help you prepare your CV & motivation letter 📄
👉 Train you in intercultural communication 🌍
👉 Keep in touch with you while abroad 💌
👉 Welcome you home and help you grow 🎉
It’s a partnership built on trust, learning, and impact. 💙🌿
💡 BONUS: Did You Know?
🚀 Some supporting organizations also organize reunions, local ESC events, or even help you become a mentor for the next generation of volunteers!
So stay connected, even after your ESC ends! 🔗
📣 Final Thoughts
Your ESC experience will be filled with new friendships, challenges, and unforgettable memories.
But remember – it all begins with your supporting organization 🧭💬
They’re your first step, your sidekick, and your last hug at the airport! ✈️💙
Applying for an Erasmus+ Youth Exchange or a European Solidarity Corps (ESC) project? Great decision! 🙌
These programs are life-changing — but first, you need to make it through the application process.
Unfortunately, many motivated young people get rejected not because they’re not good candidates — but because of avoidable mistakes. 😬 Don’t let that happen to you!
Here are the most common application mistakes (and how YOU can avoid them like a pro!) 🚀
🔹 1. Sending a Generic Motivation Letter
❌ Mistake: Copy-pasting the same letter for every project.
✅ Fix: Personalize your letter for each opportunity! Mention the specific project, the host organization, and how your interests align. Be real, be relevant, be YOU. 💙
🔹 2. Ignoring the Project Description
❌ Mistake: Applying without reading the full project info.
✅ Fix: Carefully read what the project is about — the goals, activities, and target groups. Show in your application that you understand what you’ll be doing and why you’re interested. 📄👀
🔹 3. Weak or Vague Answers
❌ Mistake: Writing answers like “I want to travel” or “I like meeting people.”
✅ Fix: Focus on impact. Why do YOU want to contribute? What can you bring to the team? Use examples from your life or studies to back up your motivation. 🌟
🔹 4. Poor Formatting & Typos
❌ Mistake: Submitting a messy motivation letter or CV full of grammar errors.
✅ Fix: Keep your documents clean, simple, and error-free. Ask a friend or mentor to proofread, or use tools like Grammarly. 📑📝
🔹 5. Missing the Deadline ⏰
❌ Mistake: Realizing the deadline is today… and rushing through your application.
✅ Fix: Set reminders and start preparing early. Many projects fill up FAST, so being early shows motivation and organization.
🔹 6. Not Including Relevant Experience
❌ Mistake: Skipping over your volunteer work, workshops, or teamwork skills.
✅ Fix: Even small things matter — school clubs, local events, babysitting, helping neighbors. Show your willingness to learn and contribute! 🙌
🔹 7. Overthinking “What They Want to Hear”
❌ Mistake: Writing what you think sounds good instead of being authentic.
✅ Fix: Be genuine. The selection team wants to know who YOU really are — not a perfect version. Honesty, clarity, and enthusiasm go a long way! 💬
✨ Final Tips:
- 📩 Follow the application instructions exactly
- 🧠 Take your time — don’t rush!
- 🙋♀️ Don’t be afraid to ask questions if something is unclear
- 💡 Let your passion shine through — this is YOUR story!
🎯 Remember: Getting selected isn’t about being “perfect” — it’s about showing that you’re motivated, open-minded, and ready to grow. 🌱
Good luck, and go get that opportunity! 🚀🌍
