๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ญ ESC Volunteering in Ghana ๐Ÿ“Š Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning Officer ๐ŸŒ

Strengthen NGO systems, build data cultures, and support communities in Tamale โ€” this ESC volunteering role places you at the heart of development work in Northern Ghana.

Ghana Developing Communities Association (GDCA) is looking for a motivated and experienced MEL Officer to join their team in Tamale. This is not an entry-level observer role โ€” GDCA needs someone who can roll up their sleeves, assess what’s working, fix what isn’t, and leave behind systems that actually last.

What Is This Role About?

GDCA is a well-established NGO working on social inclusion and community empowerment in Ghana. They are looking for a volunteer who can bring real M&E expertise to the table โ€” not just someone who wants to learn on the job, but someone who can genuinely strengthen internal systems and mentor others along the way.

This role sits within the RISE Project โ€” Reinforcing Inclusion through Solidarity and Empowerment โ€” a structured ESC initiative with layered support and a clear learning framework built around real community impact.

Objectives

๐ŸŽฏ Review and assess existing M&E tools and practices across GDCA projects

๐Ÿ” Identify gaps in current data collection, reporting, and evaluation processes

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Develop practical tools, indicators, templates, and internal guidelines

๐Ÿ“Š Analyse and visualise field data to support decision-making

๐Ÿ“ Contribute to internal and donor reporting

๐Ÿค Integrate M&E thinking into project design and implementation

๐Ÿซ Train and mentor staff on monitoring practices

๐Ÿ’ก Promote a culture of learning, reflection, and data use across the organisation

Who Should Apply?

This opportunity is designed for someone with a real background in monitoring and evaluation โ€” not a beginner profile. Here is what GDCA is looking for:

๐Ÿ”น Age: 18 to 35 years old

๐Ÿ”น Residency: Must reside in an eligible ESC country

๐Ÿ”น Language: Proficiency in English at B2โ€“C1 level is required

๐Ÿ”น Experience: Prior hands-on experience in M&E is essential

๐Ÿ”น Training: Must have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training

๐Ÿ”น Previous participation: Must not have participated before in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering

๐Ÿ”น Total EU volunteering duration: When combined with any previous EU volunteering, total cannot exceed 12 months

๐Ÿ”น Skills: Strong interpersonal, networking, and communication skills to engage effectively with stakeholders and communities

Training & Support

One of the strongest aspects of this placement is the support structure built around the volunteer. You will not be left to figure things out alone.

๐ŸŽ“ Pre-departure training activities before you leave your home country

๐Ÿ™Œ Welcome induction with GDCA upon arrival in Tamale

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Access to local language classes and intercultural activities

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Three-sided mentoring โ€” support from the hosting organisation, the supporting organisation, and an alumni volunteer

๐Ÿ’ฌ Not sure how ESC volunteering works or how to apply? Everything you need to know โ€” from eligibility to the application process โ€” is covered in this detailed guide put together for you: https://youthworkshub.org/15101/

GDCA takes practical support seriously. Here is what is arranged for the volunteer:

๐Ÿ  Accommodation close to the office โ€” typically a self-contained one or two bedroom flat with soft furnishings

๐Ÿ’ก All utilities included: water, electricity, internet, and satellite TV

๐Ÿณ Basic kitchen facilities available in the flat for self-catering

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Restaurants and food vendors are an option locally โ€” though caution is advised with street vendors for sanitary reasons
