Southern Greece, an educational eco-community, 18 volunteers from across Europe, and a month of living and working together in a way that most people never experience. This is not a sightseeing trip with a volunteer label โ Hopeland is the real thing.
Hopeland is an educational eco-community based in Greece, built around sustainable living, communal decision-making, and hands-on contribution. Their HUMUS 3.0 project brings together 18 young volunteers to enhance the space, improve sustainability practices, and experience what genuine communal living actually feels like โ challenges included.
What Is This Role About?
Hopeland is clear about what this experience is and is not. It is not a retreat, not a vacation, and not a passive observer role. You will be rolling up your sleeves, contributing to real work, and navigating the complexities of sharing space, responsibilities, and decisions with people from across Europe. The experience is designed to challenge you โ and that is precisely the point.
The project also has a digital dimension: Hopeland is looking for volunteers willing to develop their digital literacy and learn how to promote social impact through content creation. A small number of volunteers with photography and filmmaking skills are particularly welcome to document the experience and support Hopeland’s digital presence.
Activities
๐ฑ Gardening and permaculture work โ hands-on outdoor tasks to enhance the estate
๐๏ธ Eco-building activities โ physically demanding and practically meaningful
๐ณ Communal cooking and cleaning โ shared responsibilities are part of the experience
๐ฑ Content creation and digital marketing โ promoting social impact through digital literacy
๐ธ Photography and filmmaking โ documenting the experience for the community and Hopeland’s channels
๐ค Communal living and decision-making โ sharing space, time, and responsibilities with 17 other volunteers from across Europe
Who Should Apply?
Hopeland has put significant thought into who this experience is genuinely right for โ and they are honest about it.
๐น Age: 18 to 30 years old โ not older than 30 on the first day of the project
๐น Legal residents of one of the Erasmus+ programme countries with no visa needed to enter Greece
๐น Ready to live in a rural environment with basic conditions
๐น Open to sharing space, responsibilities, and decision-making in a communal setting
๐น Enthusiastic about hands-on practical tasks โ gardening, building, cooking, cleaning

๐น Eager to show commitment and initiative
๐น Priority given to those who are facing or have faced difficulties in life

โ ๏ธ Important: Hopeland is not a healing retreat or therapy space. If you are going through something that feels too much to handle on your own, seek professional support before applying. The project does not support addiction management. Tasks are physically demanding โ assess your fitness honestly before applying. Personal responsibility is essential.
