A historic education centre at the foot of the Bavarian Alps, a team of 8 to 10 international volunteers, and a role that genuinely puts you in the middle of the action — this ESC placement in Germany is as varied and hands-on as it gets.

Deutsche Provinz der Salesianer Don Boscos – Jugendbildungsstätte Aktionszentrum runs a well-established youth education centre in Benediktbeuern, Bavaria. They are looking for ESC volunteers to join their team and support a wide range of activities with school classes and young people who come to stay at the centre throughout the year.

What Is This Role About?

This is a multi-faceted role inside a busy, community-driven education centre. You will not be doing the same thing every day — one morning might be a canoe trip, the next a kitchen shift, the next a monastery tour with a visiting school group. The variety is real, and so is the responsibility. Volunteers have their own areas of responsibility and are actively encouraged to bring their ideas and skills to the team.

Activities

🛶 Supporting school classes and groups with activities like canoe trips, hiking, and climbing

🎉 Helping with evening programmes — disco nights, bar activities, and group events

📚 Supporting educational workshops and seminars run by the centre

🏨 Welcoming guests at reception and giving house and monastery tours

🍳 Helping in the kitchen and with cleaning

🌿 Garden work and maintaining sports facilities

💡 Bringing in your own ideas and skills — the team genuinely welcomes initiative

Who Should Apply?

🔹 You enjoy working with teenagers and young people

🔹 You are good at teamwork and enjoy community life

🔹 You are flexible, creative, and spontaneous — able to adapt to unexpected situations

🔹 You are independent and able to take initiative

🔹 You have at least a basic knowledge of German and are motivated to improve

🎓 Introduction week and training in the first months — covering pedagogical approaches and outdoor activities including canoe, indoor climbing, and hut tours

🏕️ Opportunity to join training activities run by the youth education centre itself

📋 On-Arrival Seminar and Mid-Term Seminar — both included as part of the ESC service

👩‍💼 Regular meetings with both the coordinator and the mentor throughout the placement
