🇧🇪 ESC Volunteering in Belgium – Gallo-Roman Farm of Malagne: Where History Comes Alive! 🏛️🐴🌾

🏺 About the Project

Step back in time and experience ancient history hands-on! The Gallo-Roman Farm of Malagne, located in the heart of Rochefort, Belgium, is not just a museum — it’s a living archaeological park where the past comes to life every day. Managed by the Association de Promotion du Site de Malagne and coordinated by the Association des Compagnons Bâtisseurs (CBB), this European Solidarity Corps (ESC) project invites volunteers to help preserve, protect, and bring history to life through creativity, sustainability, and teamwork.

Malagne Archéoparc is one of Belgium’s most unique heritage sites. It combines experimental archaeology, ecological farming, traditional crafts, and cultural education, offering volunteers an unforgettable opportunity to connect with nature, animals, and ancient techniques — all while learning about Roman heritage and rural life. 🌿⚒️

💪 What You Will Do

As a volunteer, you’ll be part of a friendly and passionate team working to maintain and animate this incredible archaeological site. Your tasks will include:

  • 🌾 Farm & Garden Work – Help with gardening, planting, pruning, and maintaining the site’s green areas.
  • 🐑 Animal Care – Feed, clean, and take care of animals living at the park — goats, sheep, and horses!
  • 🧱 Maintenance & Construction – Assist with manual work like repairing fences, building small wooden structures, and maintaining pathways.
  • 🔥 Cultural Re-enactments – Participate in interactive events, show visitors ancient crafts such as bread baking or traditional blacksmithing.
  • 🏫 Educational Support – Help staff during school visits and workshops, inspiring young visitors to explore archaeology and sustainability.

The busy season runs from April to October, when the park welcomes visitors, schools, and tourists from across Europe — a perfect time to immerse yourself in history and teamwork!
