What is covered
ESC volunteering in Spain is fully funded. The programme covers your accommodation, food, local transport, insurance and a monthly pocket money allowance, with travel reimbursed according to the distance band between your home country and the project. You also receive language support through Online Language Support and a mentor throughout your stay. According to Youth Works Hub's review of these calls, most placements in Spain cover the full package; for a project that involves a long flight, the travel band may not cover the entire ticket, so check the exact amount on the official project page before you apply.
Who can apply
To join an ESC project in Spain you need to be aged 18 to 30 and legally resident in an EU member state, an ESC associated country, or a partner country eligible for the specific project. You register once on the ESC Portal, then apply to the projects that match you. Some placements below are open to residents of many countries, while others are limited to a single nationality, so always check the eligibility line on each project. No previous experience or qualifications are required, and across your life you can volunteer through ESC for up to 12 months in total.

In "Solidarity Gardens" in Betanzos, a team of 20 volunteers creates and maintains community gardens, tackling deforestation, climate change and rural depopulation through hands-on outdoor work.

In "Solidarity Shores (SOLIDMAR)" in Cambados, a team of 30 joins coastal clean-ups, recycling and awareness events, works alongside local fishers and documents traditional knowledge.

At Andolina School, a family cooperative in Northern Spain, three volunteers join the teaching team: supporting English classes, developing the school vegetable garden with permaculture principles and bringing their own ideas. Open to residents of Germany, Ireland and Spain.

With La Tierra Verde in Gran Canaria, join a Youth Information Office combining youth guidance, participation and digital communication, building skills in social media, podcasting, photography and video. Open to residents of Spain.

In "Red Salmantica Global" with Fundación Plan B, pick from placements across youth work, residential care for children, and inclusion projects with adults and children with disabilities through education and sport.

Support English teachers with conversation activities, then design and deliver two interactive workshops: one on Artificial Intelligence and digital skills, another on sustainability and the circular economy. Open to applicants from six countries across Europe.

At Semente Compostela, a school built on coeducation, nature and gender equality, support around 80 children alongside a team of educators through arts, sports, handicraft and nature-based activities.

Support adults with intellectual disabilities and promote social inclusion: accompany participants in daily living under professional supervision, lead recreational, educational and sports workshops, and join outings at a leisure club and residential centres. Open to residents of Austria.

19. 🇪🇸 Permaculture, Food Forests and Sustainable Living near Zaragoza 🌿

At Torre Escribana near Zaragoza, take part in organic gardening, food forests, animal care, composting and environmental education across six months, completing a full Permaculture Design Course (PDC).
