Description
Join a living permaculture project at Torre Escribana, a demonstration centre near Zaragoza, Spain. Three volunteers will take part in flexible six-month placements, starting at different times between October 2026 and 2027.
You will participate in organic gardening, food forests, animal care, composting, biochar, environmental education, community activities and practical permaculture design. Tasks change with the seasons and combine outdoor work, learning and teamwork.
Volunteers will learn by doing, contribute ideas and gradually take responsibility according to their interests and abilities. The project includes a full Permaculture Design Course (PDC). One place is especially open to a young person with fewer opportunities.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers will live in an independent house at Torre Escribana, with a shared kitchen, living room and two bathrooms. Bedrooms may be private or shared, depending on individual needs and availability. Food support will be mixed: a weekly basket of vegetables and meat from the farm, some shared meals and a monthly allowance to buy additional food. Each volunteer will have access to a bicycle and can move around the local area by bike or on foot. Volunteers will also receive the daily pocket money established by the European Solidarity Corps.
Training during the activity
Volunteers will receive an introduction to the project, health and safety guidance, and practical training in the use of tools, gardening and animal care. Learning will mainly take place through supervised hands-on experience. Each volunteer will participate in a full Permaculture Design Course (PDC), combining theory with practical work at the centre. Participants will also have access to the European Solidarity Corps training cycle and the OLS language-learning platform, together with informal opportunities to practise Spanish in everyday life.
Participant profile
We are looking for young people interested in permaculture, sustainable living and learning through practical experience. Previous experience in rural life, gardening, farming or animal care would be highly valued, although it is not essential. Applicants should be willing to work outdoors, take part in physical tasks and share daily responsibilities.
Volunteers should be comfortable living close to animals and open to gardening, maintenance, environmental education and community activities. We value curiosity, initiative, flexibility, respect and a genuine willingness to learn and contribute.
Basic Spanish is an advantage but is not required. However, volunteers should be willing to learn and use Spanish in everyday life. One place is particularly intended for a participant with fewer opportunities, for whom additional support can be provided according to their needs.
