Description
For this project in Eboli, Salerno (Italy), we are looking for 10 participants aged 18–30. Travel dates are September 28th and October 28th. Some places are reserved for people with fewer opportunities. Main Activities • Medieval Event: The volunteers will take part in a 3-day medieval event during the third weekend of October but also help before and after the event. - Pre-Event Prep: Sew costumes, build and set up the stage design and an exhibition, participate to workshops to make plant-based products and wool crafts to help raise funds for the organization. - During the event: Join the chess tournament and act as figurants in the parade, live chess game, and banquet. - After the event: Help reorganized the costumes and all the setups. You will be part of an event built over several years by the community and live this experience together with the locals. • Community work: - Garden Maintenance: Help maintain a community garden realized by a previous volunteer project. - Urban Requalification: Work on art or nature-based urban regeneration projects. Eboli has an active network of local associations, the volunteers will collaborate with them on community projects.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers will stay at "Casa di Angiù”, located on the hills of Eboli. There are three bedrooms to share, a kitchen space and two bathrooms on one floor of Antonella’s house, one of the organizers. The house is at about a 40 minutes walk from the center of Eboli, this is an opportunity to live in the countryside, there is a huge garden that is also shared with Antonella’s sister. Meals will be partly shared, partly self-managed, in both cases food will be provided. Eboli is about 40000 inhabitants, there are schools, stores, bars, supermarkets, a hospital... The train station and the bus station are at a 40 minutes walk and connect to Salerno, Naples. The closest airport is Salerno Costa d’Amalfi (20 minutes) or Naples (1h30). Travel costs will be reimbursed according to the ESC guidelines. Travel budget can be slightly higher for Green travel (according to the ESC guide).
Training during the activity
During the project, volunteers will receive practical, non-formal training led by Antonella Dell’Orto, biologist, environmental educator, creative and expert with crochet and by Stephanie Dupont, environmental educator, creative and expert with the wool processing. Training will focus on learning-by-doing approaches, developing practical skills in creative and manual crafts, sustainable practices, and teamwork. Antonella and Stephanie have both taking parts in many local and international projects and thanks to their experience, they will support volunteers in planning activities, working collaboratively, and engaging with the local community in a creative and inclusive way.
Participant profile
This project welcomes young adult volunteers eager to learn, challenge themselves, and share skills, motivated, creative, manual work lover. Interests in medieval history, crafts, sewing, set ups, chess are a plus but you‘ll have the opportunity to learn these activities! Volunteers will take part in community work like gardening and urban requalification so be ready to get your hands dirty! Volunteers will also focus on communication and storytelling, supporting social media, documentation, and sharing the project experience. Hands-on skills, creativity, and teamwork are valued.
