Description
Disappearing Walls is a European Solidarity Corps project coordinated by Accem, a Spanish NGO supporting refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. The project promotes social inclusion, intercultural dialogue and community participation by supporting people seeking international protection and other vulnerable groups
Volunteers will join multidisciplinary teams and contribute to activities related to social inclusion, language learning, community engagement, cultural participation and integration into the local community. They will also have the opportunity to share their own culture, ideas and experiences, fostering meaningful intercultural exchanges
Accem offers 9 international volunteering placements in different cities across Spain: Vigo, A Coruña, León, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Burgos, Sigüenza and Jerez de la Frontera.Not Madrid
The volunteering experience lasts approximately 9 months (39 weeks) and provides valuable opportunities for personal, professional and intercultural development
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Accommodation will be provided in a fully equipped shared apartment. The volunteer will have their own private bedroom and will share common areas such as the kitchen and living room with other residents.
In accordance with European Solidarity Corps rules, volunteers will receive:
- Monthly pocket money.
- Monthly food allowance.
- Local transport support when needed for the activity.
- European Solidarity Corps insurance coverage (HENNER).
- Travel reimbursement according to ESC distance band limits.
Training during the activity
Volunteers will receive continuous support and learning opportunities throughout the project, including:
- Personal mentoring and regular follow-up meetings.
- On-arrival and Mid-term Training organised by the Spanish National Agency.
- Access to Online Language Support (EU Academy).
- Spanish language learning opportunities.
- Participation in internal Accem training activities.
- Non-formal learning activities focused on social inclusion, intercultural communication, participation and community engagement.
- Support in recognising and documenting learning outcomes through Youthpass.
Participant profile
We are looking for motivated young people who are interested in solidarity, social inclusion and intercultural learning.
The ideal volunteer:
- Is interested in working with refugees, migrants and people in vulnerable situations.
- Is open-minded, respectful and willing to learn from others.
- Shows initiative, responsibility and commitment.
- Enjoys teamwork and community participation.
- Is flexible and able to adapt to new situations.
- Believes in the value of diversity, inclusion and intercultural dialogue.
- Is motivated by the social impact of the activity rather than solely by travelling or learning a language.
- Is willing to actively participate in all aspects of the project and local community life.
No specific academic background or previous volunteering experience is required. Motivation, willingness to learn and a positive attitude are the most important qualities.
