Description
We are looking for motivated volunteers from EU Programme Countries to join a meaningful volunteering experience supporting people with intellectual disabilities and high support needs. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference while developing valuable personal and professional skills.
Volunteers will work alongside experienced professionals and take part in personalised support activities, including:
- Positive Behaviour Support and individualised interventions.
- Sensory stimulation and perception-based activities.
- Active support to develop personal skills and independence.
- Alternative and augmentative communication systems.
- Personalised cognitive training programmes.
- Activities involving new technologies.
- Gardening, household skills, relaxation and therapeutic activities.
- Physical wellbeing and physiotherapy programmes.
The target group includes people with intellectual functional diversity in situations of dependency. Therefore, volunteers should be aware that a high level of direct support may be required and that some situations or behaviours can occasionally be challenging or unexpected.
This experience is ideal for caring, committed, patient and open-minded young people who are ready to learn, contribute and grow through a highly rewarding volunteering experience.
Please note that visa support is not available for this position.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers will live in a spacious shared flat in Torrent, a town close to Valencia with all essential services for everyday life. The flat is fully equipped and includes Wi-Fi.
Volunteers receive a monthly allowance for food, personal hygiene and cleaning products, as well as pocket money.
Local transport between the accommodation and the project venue is covered, with travel by public transport.
International travel costs are covered according to the distance calculated using the official EU Distance Calculator.
Training during the activity
During the mobility, volunteers will take part in an on-arrival training and an evaluation session organised by the Spanish National Agency.
They will also receive training tailored to the specific thematic focus of the project.
Spanish language classes will be available throughout the entire mobility.
Through their participation, volunteers will develop valuable competences in organisational integration, social and intercultural skills, language learning and technical skills, while gaining meaningful practical experience.
Participant profile
It is important to emphasise that the main target group of this volunteering experience is people with intellectual and functional diversity who are in situations of dependency and have high support needs. Volunteers will therefore work closely with people who may require significant assistance in their daily lives and personal activities.
Volunteers will be actively involved in the different programmes and activities offered by the centre, always working alongside the professional team. Their role will be to support, participate, observe, learn and contribute to improving the wellbeing, autonomy, communication and quality of life of the users. The volunteer's contribution will be adapted to each person's individual needs and abilities.
We are looking for genuinely motivated candidates who are interested in working with people with high support needs and who understand that this type of volunteering requires commitment, patience, empathy and responsibility. Candidates should be reliable, flexible, open-minded and respectful, with a positive attitude towards learning and accepting different ways of communicating and behaving.
Previous experience in the field of disability, care work, social work, education, psychology, physiotherapy or related areas is highly valued, but it is not a mandatory requirement. We also welcome candidates who have a strong motivation to learn and develop their skills through the experience. A good level of Spanish is considered an advantage, as it facilitates communication with users, professionals and the wider team, but it is not an essential requirement. What matters most is the candidate’s motivation, commitment, empathy, willingness to learn and ability to communicate respectfully with others.
Above all, we are looking for volunteers who are willing to step outside their comfort zone, learn from others and build meaningful relationships based on dignity, respect and inclusion. This experience can be particularly rewarding for people who are genuinely interested in disability, social inclusion and person-centred support.
