ASPEm and VISIONEERS are offering an ESC Humanitarian Aid Volunteering placement with Asociaciรณn CDRO in Totonicapรกn, Guatemala โ for someone with a background in renewable energy or environmental sciences who wants their skills to make a tangible difference in communities facing real energy access challenges.
๐๏ธ About the Project
The AVCA Project (Amplifying the Voice for Climate Action) is implemented by Asociaciรณn CDRO in Totonicapรกn, with the support of ASPEm and VISIONEERS. The volunteer will contribute to community initiatives promoting renewable energy, environmental awareness, and energy sustainability โ working directly with local communities and families in the Totonicapรกn region of Guatemala.
๐ What You’ll Do
๐ Support diagnostic studies on renewable energy needs through field visits and community meetings
๐ง Assist with the installation, use, maintenance, and monitoring of renewable energy systems
๐ Contribute to the creation of training and awareness-raising materials on renewable energy and environmental sustainability
๐ฅ Participate in training sessions with communities and families on the use and maintenance of their energy systems
๐น Develop multimedia content โ videos and short clips โ on renewable energy and environmental sustainability
๐ Carry out communication and documentation tasks throughout the project
๐ What the Project Provides
๐ Private room in an apartment in Totonicapรกn โ rent and basic utilities (electricity, water, internet) covered. Kitchen available for personal use
๐ฝ๏ธ Volunteers can eat at local eateries or buy groceries and cook at home โ local food options are affordable and accessible
๐ Local minibuses provide transport to the office (approximately 2km, 15 minutes). Taxis and buses also available
๐ Pre-departure in-person training organised by ASPEm and VISIONEERS in Italy
๐๏ธ On-arrival onboarding at CDRO โ team introduction, organisation overview, community visits, and introduction to local context
๐ Youthpass certificate recognising all competences developed
โ Eligibility Requirements
This is a Humanitarian Aid Volunteering placement:
๐ Aged 18โ35
๐ Must reside in an eligible country (EU Member State, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Tรผrkiye)
โ Must have completed the compulsory face-to-face Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training
๐ซ Must not have participated before in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering
โฑ๏ธ Total duration of this and any previous EU volunteering must not exceed 12 months
๐ค Who Should Apply
The ideal candidate has:
โ๏ธ A background or experience in renewable energy, environmental sciences, sustainable development, or related fields
๐ง Knowledge of renewable energy systems (solar or other appropriate technologies) โ their use, maintenance, and community applications
๐ Ability to use participatory and non-formal education methodologies and develop educational and multimedia materials
๐ค Ability to work in teams and with local communities and families
๐ก A proactive, initiative-driven, and responsible approach
๐ฃ๏ธ Knowledge of Spanish is a strong advantage
