Fundación Alonso Quijano is a private nonprofit in Spain dedicated to human development through culture, education, and the promotion of reading — and they’re looking for 2 ESC volunteers to join their team for a placement that is as quietly meaningful as the books they champion.
🏛️ About Fundación Alonso Quijano
Fundación Alonso Quijano is an independent nonprofit institution focused on cultural and educational initiatives — with a particular emphasis on promoting reading across all ages and contexts. From hospital patients to immigrants to children, their programmes bring books to people who need them most.
🎯 The Role
Volunteers will be active across several of the Foundation’s programmes, constantly accompanied by a staff member who provides guidance and support throughout.
📋 What You’ll Do
🌍 Support and collaborate in the “Spanish for Immigrants” programme
🏥 Participate in the Mother and Child Hospital project — “Get Better with Books”
📦 Assist in the “Books for the World” project — donating books to communities globally
🎉 Help organise and attend events — Reading Day, Book Day, university seminars, and online events
💡 Have the opportunity to suggest your own activities
📱 Actively assist with the Foundation’s social media and communication efforts
🎁 What the Project Provides
🏠 A furnished room in a shared flat with other young people — electricity, water, and gas covered. Internet is not covered by the organisation
🍳 €150 per month for food — volunteers cook their own meals in the flat
💶 €180 per month pocket money (Spanish National Agency rate)
🚲🚌 Choice of bike or bus card for local transport if needed
🗣️ Spanish classes — 1h30 once or twice per week, given by a Spanish volunteer at the Foundation
📋 Ongoing training and guidance from coordinators in both the hospital and the Foundation
👤 Who Should Apply
Fundación Alonso Quijano is looking for volunteers aged 18–30 who:
📚 Are interested in culture and books
🧒 Have working abilities with immigrants and children
🤝 Have teamwork skills and the ability to connect with people
🗣️ Have a minimum A2 level of Spanish — essential for the role
