If you’re 18โ24, motivated, and looking for an ESC placement where you can actually develop your own project idea from scratch โ Active Bulgarian Society (ABS) in Bulgaria has a placement that gives you the space to do exactly that. From sustainability campaigns and art clubs to social media content and Erasmus+ outreach, this is a hands-on, initiative-driven volunteering experience in the heart of Blagoevgrad.
๐ข About Active Bulgarian Society
ABS is a youth organisation working to empower young people and promote sustainability, eco-friendly initiatives, and European values in Bulgaria. Their office is based in a vibrant co-working space inside the town’s mall โ a modern, collaborative environment that reflects their approach to youth work.
๐ฏ The Role
As an ESC volunteer, you’ll be contributing across four main areas: event organisation, Erasmus+ and ESC promotion, social media and communication, and your own independent community project. The role rewards initiative โ the more you bring, the more you’ll get out of it.
๐ What You’ll Do
๐ช Organise events and campaigns โ clean-ups, art clubs, DIY sustainability projects, and more
๐ฃ Promote ESC and Erasmus+ โ info sessions, school visits, and creative outreach activities
๐ฑ Social media and communication โ create content, write articles, and share ABS initiatives
๐ก Develop your own project โ turn your idea into a real community initiative
๐ง Training Provided
๐ On-Arrival Training organised by the Bulgarian National Agency covering ESC essentials
๐๏ธ ABS Orientation โ goals, vision, mission, long-term projects, and work culture
๐ ๏ธ Skills development in:
๐ป Website management
๐จ Photo editing and design โ Canva and other tools
๐ฑ Social media content creation and strategy
๐ข Non-formal education and volunteering
๐ค Team meetings, brainstorming, and buddy group support system
๐ What the Project Provides
๐ 100% covered accommodation โ rent, utilities (water, electricity, heating), and housing costs fully funded
๐ก Cosy shared apartment with all essentials and a kitchen, shared with another volunteer of the same gender
๐ถ Monthly allowance for food and pocket money
๐ Great location โ just 10โ15 minutes’ walk from the city centre and ABS office
๐ค Who Should Apply
๐ Aged 18โ24
๐ From any EU country or eligible sending country
๐ฃ๏ธ Basic English communication skills
๐ Motivated, proactive, and eager to take initiative
๐ Open to working in an intercultural environment
๐ค Adaptable, team-oriented, and ready for new challenges
๐จ Experience in organising workshops or activities is a plus โ but willingness to learn is enough
๐ ABS strongly encourages applications from young people facing economic, geographical, or educational obstacles, as well as individuals with cultural differences, disabilities, health issues, or refugee backgrounds.
