Aurillac is the capital of the Cantal department โ one of the least densely populated areas in all of France โ and sits at the heart of the Massif Central, a vast plateau of ancient volcanoes. The region is famous for its dramatic landscapes, traditional Salers cattle, and the world-renowned Aurillac International Street Theatre Festival.
What Will You Do?
๐๏ธ Work within the Marmiers Community Center โ a local facility open to all neighbourhood residents โ supporting daily activities for families and young people
๐ Contribute to popular education initiatives that empower residents to become active participants in their community
๐ณ๏ธ Support citizenship and democratic participation activities aimed at young people
๐จ Help organise and facilitate creativity and cultural activities within the community
๐ Act as a facilitator and ambassador for European projects and values within a rural French context
๐ป Contribute your digital skills to the centre’s programmes and communications
๐ค Develop and lead your own volunteering project with support from the host organisation
๐ Did You Know? Popular education (รฉducation populaire) is a French social movement dating back to the 19th century, rooted in the belief that education should be accessible to everyone โ not just the elite. It uses non-formal, participatory methods to build critical thinking, civic engagement, and community solidarity.
Who Can Apply?
๐ Aged 18โ30 and residing in one of the eligible ESC countries
๐ฃ๏ธ English and/or French speaker โ or genuinely motivated to learn French
๐ป Has digital skills and is comfortable using technology in an educational or community setting
๐ฟ Open to and enthusiastic about working in a rural area
๐งญ Shows initiative and a genuine desire to develop their own project
๐ค Adaptable, communicative, and able to connect with diverse groups of people
๐ช๐บ Motivated to participate in and promote European projects and values
Accommodation, Food & Travel
๐ Private studio flat in a residence in the centre of Aurillac with easy access to public transport
๐ฝ๏ธ Food allowance of โฌ9/day provided
๐ถ Pocket money of โฌ8/day for personal expenses
๐ Local transport options include bus, bike, and carpooling
โ๏ธ Travel costs covered based on distance from the volunteer’s country to France, subject to ESC maximum reimbursement rules
Training & Learning
๐ On-Arrival Training organised by the French National Agency โ 3 to 5 days to meet other volunteers and get introduced to the ESC programme and French culture
๐ Mid-Term Training also organised by the National Agency to review progress and support your volunteering project
