AFS Low Lands is a global non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting intercultural learning and global citizenship. As a volunteer Intercultural Educator, you’ll help young people discover diversity, empathy, and open-mindedness — values that make our world more just and peaceful.
Your role combines education, facilitation, and communication — guiding students, leading intercultural workshops, and supporting AFS exchange activities. If you’re passionate about connecting people, public speaking, and global learning, this opportunity is made for you! 🌍💬
💪 What You Will Do
The project has three exciting components where you’ll make real impact:
- 🎓 Intercultural Education for Schools & NGOs:
- Design and deliver creative workshops that show diversity as a strength.
- Facilitate sessions for students, teachers, and youth workers on global competences.
- 🌍 AFS Exchange Program Facilitation:
- Train to become a Qualified Facilitator for the Global Competence Certificate (GCC).
- Guide young people preparing for AFS exchange programmes.
- 🗂️ Administration & Promotion:
- Support AFS teams with applications, profiles, and event logistics.
- Help promote intercultural initiatives in schools and communities.
This volunteering experience is full-time (37.5h/week), with flexible hours and occasional weekend activities.
🏡 Accommodation, Meals & Transport
- 🏠 Volunteers are responsible for finding their own accommodation in Mechelen or nearby areas.
- ✈️ International travel to/from Belgium covered according to ESC distance rules.
- 🚆 Local public transport costs between accommodation, workplace, and project-related activities are supported.
You’ll live in a vibrant, student-friendly city perfectly located between Brussels and Antwerp — a cultural hub ideal for your intercultural journey! 🇧🇪
🎓 Training & Development
- 📜 Qualified Facilitator Training for the Global Competence Certificate (GCC).
- 🗣️ Dutch Language Course to support integration and communication.
- 💡 On-site Professional Training by experienced AFS staff.
- 🌍 Continuous mentoring and guidance from AFS professionals.
You’ll gain valuable skills in education, facilitation, communication, and cultural mediation, making this a strong step forward for your professional development.
👥 Participant Profile
We’re seeking motivated, dynamic, and socially engaged volunteers aged 18–30 who:
- 🗣️ Speak English, French, and/or Dutch (strong communication skills required).
- 💬 Are motivated to learn Dutch during the project.
- 👩🏫 Enjoy working with teenagers and young adults.
- 🌍 Are passionate about intercultural learning and diversity.
- 🎤 Are confident speaking in public and leading groups.
- 💪 Are enthusiastic, friendly, and hands-on with a positive attitude.
