When I first received the message saying โYouโve been selected!โ, I could hardly believe it.
Ten months in Poland ๐ต๐ฑ through the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) โ it felt like a dream! ๐โจ
At first, I was nervous. A new country, a new culture, a new languageโฆ but also a new version of me waiting to be discovered.
๐ฒ Cooking for Change โ A Kitchen with a Purpose
My project took place in a local community center that provided daily meals for people in need.
Every day, our international volunteer team cooked, served, and shared food with the local community. ๐ฅ๐๐
The atmosphere was full of warmth and laughter โ despite the challenges, it always felt meaningful. ๐ฌ
I learned that solidarity isnโt just about big actions โ itโs about small moments of care: serving a meal, listening to someoneโs story, or making them smile. ๐
Working side by side with other volunteers from ๐ฎ๐น Italy, ๐ซ๐ท France, ๐ช๐ธ Spain, ๐ฑ๐น Lithuania, ๐ฉ๐ช Germany, and ๐น๐ท Tรผrkiye was an incredible experience.
We became a family โ cooking, learning, and growing together. ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ
๐ฑ Learning Beyond the Kitchen
My volunteer work didnโt stop at meal preparation.
I also helped with:
๐ฆ Donation management and logistics
๐จ Creative workshops for children and young people
๐ธ Social media campaigns for the NGO
๐ Community events about sustainability and inclusion
Through all this, I developed new skills โ teamwork, leadership, communication, and problem-solving. ๐ช
I realized that volunteering helps you grow not just as a professional, but as a human being.
โ๏ธ Living & Travelling in Poland
Polish winters are freezing cold โ๏ธ โ but my heart was warm every day.
On weekends, I explored beautiful cities like Krakรณw, Gdaลsk, and Wrocลaw ๐.
I tried pierogi ๐ฅ, learned basic Polish (still working on pronunciation ๐
), and took hundreds of photos of snowy streets and cozy cafรฉs. โ๐ธ
Each city had a story, and each journey made me feel more connected to Europe. ๐๐
๐ฌ Sametโs Message to Future Volunteers
If youโve ever thought, โMaybe next year Iโll try volunteeringโฆโ โ donโt wait.
Say YES now. โจ
Youโll gain new friends, new skills, and a new version of yourself you never knew existed.
Volunteering abroad doesnโt just change othersโ lives โ it changes yours. ๐
