🇵🇹 ESC Volunteering in Portugal 🧒 Youth and Community Volunteer at MOJU — Working with Children in the South of Portugal 🌞

Two community spaces inside local neighbourhoods. Children and teenagers to support with homework and workshops every day. And a vibrant coastal town in the Algarve where culture, community, and the Atlantic come together. MOJU — Associação Movimento Juvenil em Olhão is looking for ESC volunteers for their VESSEL project — a long-term placement in Olhão, southern Portugal, for people genuinely motivated to work with young people with fewer opportunities.

🏘️ About the VESSEL Project

VESSEL (Volunteering as an Engine for Solidarity, Social Engagement and Learning opportunities) brings together volunteers from different countries across different time periods — all placed in Olhão, where they work in two community spaces inside local neighbourhoods. Volunteers support children and teenagers daily, contribute to MOJU’s ongoing projects, and are encouraged to develop and implement their own ideas and projects.

📋 What You’ll Do

📚 Help children and teenagers with homework support at community spaces

🎭 Deliver sessions and workshops on a daily basis — topics and formats can vary based on your skills and interests

🌍 Act as a liaison between partner organisations — sharing knowledge and experience from your home country

💡 Develop and implement your own projects and ideas within the organisation

🤝 Contribute to the activities and projects developed by the host organisation

🎁 What the Project Provides

🏠 Furnished shared flat close to the office and the town centre — own bedroom or shared with one other volunteer, shared kitchen and bathroom

💶 Monthly food contribution and pocket money as stipulated by ESC rules — paid at the beginning of each month

🗣️ 3 hours of Portuguese lessons per week

📚 Online Language Support (OLS) platform for Portuguese throughout the project

🎓 On-arrival and mid-term training provided by the Portuguese National Agency

👤 Who Should Apply

MOJU’s selection is open and transparent — no preferences regarding gender, age, or field of study. What matters most is:

❤️ A genuine interest in working with children and young people with fewer opportunities and those at risk of exclusion

🤝 Motivation to contribute actively to community life in Olhão

🏛️ Experience linked to youth associations is a plus — but not a requirement
