Are you between 18 and 35, passionate about environmental education, climate action, and intercultural exchange — and ready to spend time in one of Southeast Asia’s most vibrant capitals? This ESC Humanitarian Aid volunteering placement in Hanoi puts you alongside the Centre for Sustainable Development Studies (CSDS), working with local youth through language teaching, environmental workshops, social animation, and community seminars. Three meals a day, accommodation in a local neighbourhood away from the tourist trail, and a monthly bus pass are all included. Deadline: 1 July 2026.
🇻🇳 Did You Know? Hanoi is one of the oldest capital cities in the world — it has served as the political centre of Vietnam for over a thousand years, founded in 1010 AD. Today it is a city of striking contrasts: ancient temples and colonial-era architecture sit alongside modern boulevards, and a thriving civil society scene makes it one of the most active cities in Southeast Asia for environmental and community development work.
What Will You Do?
🌿Facilitate educational activities to raise environmental awareness and promote climate action among local youth — working with the Centre for Sustainable Development Studies (CSDS) in Hanoi
🗣️Teach languages and host interactive discussions — bringing your linguistic and cultural background directly into the learning environment
♻️Implement green practices at the community level — contributing to sustainability initiatives as part of the daily work of the project
🎭Engage in and lead social animation activities and educational workshops with local youth — using creative, participatory methods
📋Organise seminars on topics including nutrition, environmental management, and active citizenship — working alongside local staff and volunteers
🎥Apply your video-making and photography skills to document and promote the project’s work — proficiency in these areas is highly valued
💡 Did You Know? Vietnam is one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change in the world — it ranks among the top nations at risk from sea level rise, extreme weather events, and flooding. Working on environmental education and climate awareness in Hanoi is not abstract: the issues volunteers will be raising awareness about are already affecting Vietnamese communities in very real and immediate ways.
Accommodation, Food & Travel
🏠Twin room accommodation with air conditioning in summer, hot water for winter showers, Wi-Fi, and a fan — shared kitchen, common space, and bathroom with other volunteers
🌍Located in a quiet, non-tourist area of Hanoi — a genuine immersion in local community life, away from the tourist trail
🍽️Three nutritious meals per day provided for six days a week — food is fully covered as part of the placement package
🚌A complimentary monthly bus pass is included — getting around Hanoi is taken care of
✈️Travel support provided in accordance with ESC programme rules
Training & Learning
💻Pre-departure training provided online before you leave — arriving prepared and informed from day one
🌍On-arrival training in Vietnam to support your integration into community activities and the local context
👤A dedicated mentor supports you daily throughout the placement — ensuring smooth integration and ongoing personal development
📋Mid-term evaluation training after 3 months, followed by a final evaluation before departure — structured reflection built into the whole experience
🔄A follow-up meeting takes place 1–2 months after returning home — supporting your reintegration and continued development
Who Can Apply?
🎂You are between 18 and 35 years old at the time of the placement
🇪🇺You live in an EU Member State or an associated non-EU country — see the eligible countries list below
📅You are available for the full placement period — commitment to the entire duration is mandatory
🎓Completion of face-to-face pre-departure training is mandatory before starting the voluntary service
🤝You are friendly, positive, empathetic, and open-minded — flexibility and creativity are essential for this role
🗣️Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must — facilitation and training abilities are highly valued
🎥Proficiency in video-making and photography is highly valued — experience working with vulnerable populations and leadership qualities are a strong plus
