Do you have a background in circus, gymnastics, dance, theatre, or any performance art โ€” and dream of spending a year on the wild Atlantic coast of Ireland doing what you love? Galway Community Circus is looking for an ESC volunteer to join their team as a Circus Trainer Assistant. You will co-run classes for toddlers, youth, adults, and families, develop your own creative project, perform in productions, and train new circus skills โ€” all as part of a vibrant, internationally connected circus community in one of Ireland’s most beloved cities. Pocket money, food allowance, and shared house accommodation all provided. Deadline: 30 March 2026.
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช Did You Know? Galway is widely regarded as the cultural capital of the west of Ireland โ€” a UNESCO City of Film and home to one of Europe’s most celebrated arts festivals, the Galway International Arts Festival. It sits on the edge of Connemara, one of the most dramatic and unspoiled landscapes in Europe, and has a thriving community arts scene that makes it one of the most creatively alive cities on the continent.

What Will You Do?

๐ŸŽชCo-prepare class schedules and contribute to in-class circus activities โ€” working directly alongside lead trainers with participants ranging from toddlers to whole families
๐Ÿ•๏ธParticipate in camps and outreach workshops โ€” bringing circus education beyond the hall and into the wider community
๐ŸคธTrain and develop your own circus artist skills through weekly skill development sessions and practical experience โ€” this is a placement where you grow as a performer too

๐Ÿ’กDevelop and deliver a personal creative project that contributes something meaningful to the Galway Community Circus community
๐Ÿ—‚๏ธAssist lead trainers with various administrative tasks and contribute to the maintenance and running of the circus hall
๐Ÿ’ก Did You Know? The ASK training curriculum โ€” which all volunteers on this placement receive โ€” was developed over two years through a collaboration of eleven EU circus schools and funded by Erasmus+. It is one of the only structured pedagogical training programmes in Europe specifically designed for circus trainer assistants, giving this ESC placement a level of professional development that goes far beyond most volunteering opportunities.

Accommodation, Food & Travel

๐Ÿ Shared house provided for up to 4 ESC volunteers โ€” three bedrooms (two single rooms and one shared room) with rotation options throughout the year
๐Ÿ’กAll basic bills covered by GCC โ€” internet, heating, electricity, and maintenance are fully taken care of
๐Ÿ’ฐโ‚ฌ11 per day pocket money plus โ‚ฌ180 food allowance per month โ€” provided throughout the placement
โœˆ๏ธTravel support provided in accordance with ESC programme rules

๐ŸคธWeekly skill development sessions to advance your circus artistry โ€” you will leave this placement as a more skilled performer
๐Ÿ—‚๏ธBasic administration training to support your practical day-to-day role within the organisation
๐ŸŒฑCreative development through your personal project โ€” with mentorship and space to grow as both a trainer and an artist

Who Can Apply?

๐ŸŽชYou ideally already have skills in circus, gymnastics, theatre, dance, or other performance arts โ€” this is the most important background for this placement
๐ŸคYou can work as part of a team and are open to working with people from diverse backgrounds โ€” toddlers, youth, adults, and families all come through the circus hall
โฐYou are flexible around working hours and able to work under pressure when camps, outreach, or productions demand it
๐ŸŒYou are genuinely excited to immerse yourself in the world of circus and community arts for the duration of the placement
