Are you passionate about climate action, sustainability, and social solidarity — and looking for a hands-on ESC volunteering experience in Germany? Diakonie Bavaria is looking for a motivated volunteer to support KADia, a climate adaptation project helping social organisations protect vulnerable groups — including older people, children, and people with disabilities — from the growing impacts of climate change. You will contribute to event organisation, communication, social media, and outreach as part of an experienced and supportive team in Nürnberg. Accommodation, insurance, pocket money, and travel support all provided. Deadline: 24 March 2026.
🇩🇪 Did You Know? Nürnberg is one of Germany’s most historically significant cities — once a centre of the Holy Roman Empire and later the site of the post-World War II Nuremberg Trials. Today it is a vibrant, mid-sized city in Bavaria with a strong civil society, excellent public transport, and a well-established culture of social and environmental initiatives.
What Will You Do?
🎪Help organise online and in-person events as part of the KADia climate adaptation project — supporting logistics, coordination, and follow-up
📣Assist with communication activities — including writing short texts, preparing outreach materials, and contributing to the project’s visibility efforts
📱Support the project’s social media presence — creating content that raises awareness of climate challenges in the social sector
🌐Contribute to the project’s digital platform, which collects and shares good practice examples of climate adaptation measures from social organisations across Germany
🤝Connect with social organisations working with vulnerable groups — helping to share knowledge, highlight successful approaches, and build networks around climate resilience
📋Participate in internal meetings, workshops, and events — contributing your own ideas and perspectives to the team’s work
💡 Did You Know? Climate change disproportionately affects the most vulnerable members of society — older people, children, and people with disabilities face the highest risks from extreme heat, flooding, and other climate impacts. The KADia project addresses this often-overlooked intersection of climate adaptation and social care, making it one of the more innovative ESC placements currently available in Germany.
Accommodation, Food & Travel
🏠Accommodation with a private bathroom is provided — all arrangements are handled by the host organisation
🍽️Pocket money and food support are provided in accordance with ESC programme rules
✈️Travel support is provided according to ESC programme rules
🛡️Insurance is fully covered by the host organisation throughout the placement
Training & Learning
📚Around 25 training days with international volunteers — covering peer learning, shared experiences, and intercultural exchange through exciting seminars
👤A personal mentor at your placement supports your development throughout — with regular feedback meetings and help defining your personal learning goals
🎓Individual support from qualified education officers provided by Diakonie Bayern as the Coordinating Organisation
🇩🇪Language course support is provided to help you settle into daily life in Nürnberg — German is helpful but not required to apply
🌱Regular integration talks and day-to-day support to help you feel at home — the focus is on your professional, personal, and intercultural development
Who Can Apply?
🌍You are interested in climate action, sustainability, or social issues — and want to contribute to real, practical work in this space
✍️You enjoy communication, writing, or creative work — experience with social media content is a plus
🤝You are open to teamwork in an international environment and willing to support event preparation and coordination tasks
🗣️You have a good level of English — German is helpful but not required
💡No specific professional background is required — curiosity, commitment, and openness are the most important qualities
