This ESC volunteering opportunity takes place at the Gallo-Roman Farm of Malagne, managed by the Malagne Archéoparc — a dynamic non-profit organisation dedicated to preserving, researching, and recreating the ancient Gallo-Roman way of life 🇧🇪🏛️. Through experimental archaeology, traditional craftsmanship, ancient techniques, farm animals, and educational activities, the site brings history to life for thousands of visitors each year. Volunteers join a passionate team to support the preservation, daily functioning, and educational mission of this unique archaeological heritage site.

🛠️ What You Will Do

This project is perfect for volunteers who enjoy physical outdoor work, teamwork, and nature. Your main tasks include:

• 🌿 Gardening, pruning, and landscape maintenance
• 🪵 Fixing fences, building small structures, repairing pathways
• 🐑 Taking care of animals on site
• 🧱 Helping maintain the archaeological farm environment
• 🍞 Supporting educational activities (optional): helping with school groups, demonstrating ancient bread-making, traditional forging, and assisting during historical re-enactment events
  Peak activity period is between April and October — a lively time filled with events and visitors.

🏡 Accommodation, Food & Living Support

Volunteers enjoy:

• 🏠 A private room in a shared, fully equipped volunteer house in Rochefort (1.5 km from Malagne)
• 🍽️ A monthly food budget for self-catering
• 💶 Pocket money throughout the activity

  The shared house includes other ESC volunteers, offering strong community life and intercultural exchange.
