🇧🇪 ESC Volunteering in Belgium 🤝 Asylum Seeker Support Volunteer at Fedasil Centre — Leisure, Education and Community 🌍

A reception centre for up to 220 asylum seekers — including 40 unaccompanied minors — 25km from Brussels. School support. Leisure activities. Community awareness work. And two volunteers living together and working side by side with residents who need connection, stability, and genuine human presence. JAVVA is offering an ESC volunteering placement at Fedasil Rixensart for people who are ready to show up — with empathy, flexibility, and real motivation.

🏠 About the Centre

Fedasil Rixensart is a Belgian federal reception centre hosting asylum seekers and refugees. Services include social support, medical care, reception, school support, and leisure activities. The volunteers will be embedded in the leisure activities service — working with both children and adults.

📋 What You’ll Do

🎓 Support children and teenagers with their schooling — homework help, study support, and encouragement

🎭 Organise and run leisure and cultural activities for residents — social, creative, and recreational

🤝 Participate in community awareness activities in the local neighbourhood — raising awareness about asylum seekers

👩‍👧 Work closely with women and children among the resident population

🌍 Contribute to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for people who have experienced displacement and trauma

🎁 What the Project Provides

🏠 Shared flat for the two volunteers

💶 Monthly allowance for food and pocket money

📚 Participation in 2 ESC seminars organised by the Belgian National Agency (on-arrival and mid-term)

🎓 Training on asylum policy and psychosocial aspects — offered according to opportunities

🗓️ Participation in 3 ESC days organised by JAVVA

👤 Who Should Apply

JAVVA is looking for volunteers who are:

❤️ Interested in migration issues and genuinely willing to interact with asylum seekers

🔄 Flexible, open-minded, and empathetic

🤝 Strong team spirit and interpersonal skills

💡 Ready to take initiative and adapt to unexpected situations

🏘️ Prepared to live in a relatively isolated place

💪 Emotionally ready to work with residents who may be experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder

🇫🇷 A good knowledge of French is a plus for communicating with colleagues
