🇩🇪 ESC Volunteering in Germany 🎪 Summer Activities and Democracy Festival Volunteer at Roter Baum 🌳

Outdoor furniture built by hand for a Democracy festival. Chill-out areas designed and created for young visitors. Direct contact with local festival audiences. And a short, intensive ESC team volunteering placement in Germany during the summer — open to volunteers from Germany, Hungary, and Serbia. Roter Baum Berlin is looking for proactive, creative, and hands-on volunteers to make their Democracy festival an unforgettable experience for young people.

🏢 About the Project

Roter Baum is a Berlin-based organisation working with youth centres and cultural events. This ESC team volunteering placement focuses on two interconnected tasks: creating outdoor furniture that will be used during the Democracy festival and later reused by youth centres, and designing and delivering activities for young people visiting the festival’s chill-out areas.

📋 What You’ll Do

🔍 Explore the surroundings of one or more youth centres, estimate their needs

🪑 Build outdoor furniture — tables, benches, and chill-out structures — for the festival and for reuse by youth centres

🎨 Create and implement activities and offers for young visitors at the festival’s chill-out areas

🤝 Have direct contact with local visitors and audiences of the Democracy festival

💡 Contribute to creativity and meaningful experiences for young people throughout the event

🏠 Accommodation

🛏️ Mixed-nations, single-gender rooms of 2–3 people — very close to S-Bahn station Kaulsdorf

🍳 Breakfast provided by the accommodation. Service kitchen available for participants

🍽️ Lunch and dinner vary — sometimes organised by hosting locations, sometimes by the group, sometimes self-organised

🧹 Hygiene of the accommodation is the responsibility of participants

📜 Certificate of participation provided after the project

👤 Who Should Apply

The project will include 12–15 volunteers. Roter Baum is looking for people who are:

💡 Proactive and open-minded — interested in ESC projects and youth work

🔄 Adaptable and eager to share, learn, and test skills in practice

💬 Good communication skills — able to phrase and explain ideas clearly

🔨 Skilled in one or more of the following: carpentry, sewing, painting, logic, aesthetics, functionality, pedagogy, or literacy

📸 Skills in design, videography, photography, and marketing are highly appreciated

🗣️ Good English required — basic German is a strong asset and appreciated for direct festival contact
