🇸🇮 ESC Volunteering in Slovenia 🌿 Get Ready for Summer: Organic Farming and Nature Work at Zelena Centrala 🫐

June in rural Slovenia. The longest days of the year. Lavender fields, haskap berries, fruit trees, and a group of 6–8 volunteers working alongside organic farmers who do things the slow, careful, sustainable way. “Get Ready for Summer” is an ESC team volunteering project hosted by Drustvo Zelena Centrala on an organic farm in Jurovski Dol— two weeks of hands-on nature work, intercultural community life, and genuine immersion in organic farming practices.

🌱 About the Project

Hosted at one organic farm, volunteers will have the opportunity to work with at least 3 different organic farming realities in the region — meeting and learning from farms with different, unique approaches united by one common mission: to farm in a strictly organic and sustainable way. The project sits at the intersection of environmental action, food security, biodiversity, and climate awareness — learned through experience, not lectures.

📋 What You’ll Do

🔧 Fix fences and carry out farm maintenance tasks

🌿 Weed lavender, fruit trees, and black currant plants

🌾 Collect herbs and prepare them for use or storage

🫐 Harvest haskap berries — the first berries of the season

🍓 Process berries into marmalades and jams

🚜 Observe different farm conditions and meet the individual needs of each farm visited

🌦️ Working hours vary depending on the weather — flexibility and adaptability are essential

🏡 Accommodation and Food

🏠 Accommodation in the farmhouse on the Zelena Centrala property in the rural village of Jurovski Dol — shared room with at least 2 other people, shared daily routines with the whole group of 6–8 volunteers

🚿 Kitchen with terrace, bathroom with shower and toilet, open-air shower, compost toilet, and the possibility to sleep in a tent

🥗 Lunch is cooked together — volunteers take care of their own breakfast and dinner (100% organic and local produce supplied)

🚌 Regular buses to Maribor depart 500m from the farm

👤 Who Should Apply

Zelena Centrala is looking for volunteers who are:

🌍 Active, engaged, and curious — people who like to share and live in community

🌱 Interested in concrete practices of sustainable living and nature preservation

💪 Not afraid of physical outdoor work — including adapting to unpredictable weather conditions

🏕️ Comfortable living in a rural place, away from city comforts

🤝 At ease with teamwork and nature
