Education as a tool for social change. Small groups. Children with special needs. And a team of international volunteers working together to make learning feel like something worth showing up for. “More Than Just a School” is an ESC volunteering placement at the Gdynia Social School โ a small, alternative primary school in northern Poland that does things differently, and is looking for volunteers who believe in why that matters.
๐ซ About the Gdynia Social School
The Gdynia Social School is run by the association Tacy Sami and focuses on alternative methods of education for around 160 pupils aged 6โ15. It operates in small groups of maximum 20 pupils and works with children with a range of needs โ including sight impairment, autism, and other disorders or health conditions. The school’s approach treats education as an everyday experience built on fun, togetherness, and the development of individual passions.
๐ฏ The Role
You’ll be working as part of a group of 3 international volunteers under the supervision of the school’s pedagogist. The tasks are varied and shaped by your own skills and interests โ there is genuine room to bring your own ideas, methods, and personality into the work.
๐ What You’ll Do
๐ฎ Create integration and energising games for children
๐จ Organise workshops across creative and educational themes
๐ฉโ๐ซ Help teachers during classes and support daily school activities
๐งฉ Work directly with children with special needs
๐ Organise charity events for and with the school community
๐ฃ๏ธ Teach languages and support multilingual activities
๐ก Develop your own activities based on your skills and interests
๐ What the Project Provides
๐ Accommodation in a rented flat โ 1โ2 person room shared with other volunteers
๐ถ Monthly pocket money and allowance
๐ Monthly budget for a bus ticket in Gdynia
๐ Participation in On-arrival and Mid-term trainings organised by the National Agency
๐ Additional trainings run by the supporting organisation
๐ค Who Should Apply
This placement is for volunteers who:

๐ค Enjoy close contact with others and thrive in community settings
๐จ Are creative, independent, and patient
๐ Are constantly looking for new inspiration and innovative methods in education
๐ Can commit for a minimum of 10 months, preferably 12
๐ซ Do not have other commitments such as work or study during the placement
๐ Are residents of the EU or Eastern Europe and the Caucasus
