Have you ever wanted to live and work inside a real ecological community โ on an organic farm, in an Alpine landscape, with a genuine community of people who have chosen a different way of living? Sulzbrunn Community in Sulzberg, Bavaria is an ecovillage and seminar centre running on cooperative principles, and they are looking for ESC volunteers to become an active part of their community. Your role will be hands-on and diverse: cooking organic meals for seminar guests, working on renovation projects, cultivating vegetables, helping organise the annual family festival, and eventually developing your own projects based on your interests and strengths. ๐ฉ๐ช Did You Know? Sulzberg is a village in the Allgรคu region of Bavaria โ one of the most scenically spectacular parts of Germany, sitting at the foot of the Alps near the Austrian border. The Allgรคu is famous for its lush green meadows, traditional alpine farmhouses, and exceptional dairy farming. It is also one of the regions of Germany where sustainable and community-based living has the deepest roots, with a long tradition of cooperative agriculture and ecological building that makes it a natural home for a project like Sulzbrunn.
What Will You Do?
๐ณHelp cook organic meals for seminar guests โ working in the community kitchen as part of the daily rhythms of the seminar centre
๐ Assist with cleaning and preparing guest rooms โ contributing to the smooth running of the seminar centre as a hospitality and retreat space
๐ชHelp organise the annual family festival โ a community highlight that brings people together around shared values and celebration
๐จWork on ecological renovation projects โ hands-on building and restoration work using sustainable materials and methods
๐ฅฆCultivate vegetables on the organic farm โ working with the land through the seasons alongside the community
๐Contribute to farm life with vegetables, orchards, sheep, cattle, and forest management โ a full immersion in ecological and rural practice
๐กDevelop your own projects based on your interests and strengths โ after a comprehensive introduction to all areas, you choose your own focus

Founded in 1995, GEN now connects over 10,000 communities, projects, and educators across more than 100 countries. Volunteering through this network means joining one of the most globally connected sustainability movements in existence.
Accommodation, Food & Travel
๐ Private room in a shared apartment in one of the community’s houses โ shared kitchen, living room, and bathroom, plus access to common areas including the sports hall, lounge, and seminar rooms
๐Car pool scheme available to join depending on driver’s licence โ a bus stop and train station are within 20โ35 minutes on foot

Covered by ESC: free accommodation, food allowance, pocket money, and health insurance โ all fully provided throughout the placement

Training & Learning
