Are you ready to join a team of 8 volunteers in a small Finnish municipality on the coast of Northern Ostrobothnia — caring for greenspaces, celebrating local culture, and working hand in hand with the local community? The municipality of Siikajoki is looking for motivated ESC volunteers to maintain outdoor venues, plan and implement communal events, and create activities that bring residents together. This is a short-term team volunteering experience in a genuinely off-the-beaten-path corner of Finland, where midnight sun, Nordic nature, and community spirit define the experience. 🇫🇮 Did You Know? Siikajoki is located in Northern Ostrobothnia — a coastal region of Finland that stretches along the Gulf of Bothnia. In late June, this part of Finland experiences the midnight sun: the sun barely sets, and daylight lasts virtually around the clock. Volunteering here in summer means working and living in one of the most atmospheric natural phenomena northern Europe has to offer.
What Will You Do?
🌿Care for and maintain outdoor greenspaces — including parks, playgrounds, and other outdoor venues across the municipality of Siikajoki
🤝Work directly with local residents to create activities and increase community involvement — building genuine connections with the people of Siikajoki
🎉Plan and implement communal and cultural events that celebrate local culture and bring the community together
🌲Work outdoors in the Nordic summer environment — tasks vary and volunteers need to be ready to work in all weather conditions
🕐Adapt to flexible working hours — tasks and schedules shift according to the needs of the project and the community

Accommodation, Food & Travel
🏠Dormitory accommodation with shared rooms (same gender) — the dormitory has a kitchen and bathrooms available for volunteers
🍳Food money provided — volunteers prepare their own meals using the shared kitchen
🚌Most work tasks take place within short distances — transportation provided when needed. A train station with connections to other cities is located nearby
✈️Travel support provided in accordance with ESC programme rules
Training & Learning
📚On-arrival training to orient volunteers to the project, the municipality, and the local community
👤Task-related support and mentoring provided throughout the project — volunteers are guided and supported in their day-to-day work

🌧️You are comfortable working outdoors regardless of weather — Finnish summer weather can be unpredictable and volunteers need to be prepared
