It is for someone ready to show up, every day, for people who need it most.

FOL 74 hosts this ESC placement at Le Nid — an Asylum Seekers Centre (CADA) in the French Alps. The work spans socio-cultural activities, sport, environmental projects, and direct support for refugees, asylum seekers, and unaccompanied foreign minors. French is the working language of the entire project, so a genuine desire to use and improve your French is essential.

What Is This Role About?

Le Nid is not a passive setting. As a volunteer, you will be co-creating activities, facilitating workshops, organising outings, and working alongside the residents of the centre in a way that treats them as active participants — not recipients. The role is divided across three main areas of activity.

Activities

🎨 Socio-Cultural Activities

🎭 Animation and mediation around education against discrimination and racism

🎉 Preparation of entertainment outings, wellbeing workshops, and events for centre residents

⛷️ Sports Activities

🏔️ Supporting the setup of sporting and cultural events based on the volunteer’s own interests — snow sports, mountain sports, cycling, climbing, and more

🏅 Participation in sporting events alongside residents

🚵 Co-preparing outings with local organisations in the surrounding area

🌱 Transversal Activities

🥦 Participating in the creation and monitoring of a vegetable garden and rest area with unaccompanied foreign minors

📚 Co-organising workshops as part of training courses for refugees and asylum seekers

🔹 Highly motivated by cultural exchange, human relations, and sharing

🔹 Desire to share FOL 74’s values around solidarity and inclusion

🔹 Motivated to co-organise activities for the centre’s residents

🔹 Interest in manual and practical work

🔹 Driving licence is required

Training & Support

This placement comes with an unusually rich training offer.

🇫🇷 French language courses available at the centre

🎓 Opportunity to obtain the BAFA diploma — Brevet d’Aptitude aux Fonctions d’Animateur — enabling the volunteer to supervise children and teenagers in a non-professional capacity

🚑 Option to take a first-aid course

🌍 Two-day training in Paris on international solidarity

💻 Online training on setting up sustainable solidarity projects

📋 Two seminars bringing together volunteers from across France

Accommodation, Food & Transport

The practical setup at Le Nid is comprehensive and fully covered.

🏠 Free accommodation at the centre — shared room with another volunteer, with a separate bathroom and toilet

🍽️ Three meals a day provided at the centre every day

💶 €224 to €248 per month pocket money (€8 per day equivalent, depending on the number of days in the month)

🍱 €116 per month food allowance for vacations and when the Le Nid canteen is closed (2–3 weeks per year)

🚗 Access to centre cars for transport, subject to availability
