You wonโt just observeโyouโll physically contribute to building a vocational training center and work side-by-side with local communities.
๐ Project Overview
This ESC volunteering teams project takes place in Namayumba, Wakiso district, Uganda, where 15 volunteers will support the creation of a youth vocational training center (UYSTO).
The focus is clear: youth empowerment, employability, and community resilience in a rural setting.

๐ ๏ธ Supporting local builders in constructing the training center
๐ฑ Setting up a greenhouse and vegetable garden
๐ง Learning and applying rainwater collection systems
๐ง Working with children from St. Joseph Primary School
๐ฅ Engaging and recruiting unemployed youth from vulnerable backgrounds
๐งต Supporting workshops like carpentry, dressmaking, and weaving
This is a hands-on, physically active project where results are visible almost immediately.

๐ง Learning & Training
Before and during the project, youโll go through structured preparation:
๐ Online pre-departure training (2 sessions, 2 hours each)
๐ Cultural adaptation and project expectations
๐ก On-site introduction to Ugandan lifestyle and community
๐งฉ Practical training in construction and gardening
๐ฌ Weekly reflection sessions and activity planning
Youโre not expected to be an expertโthis is about learning by doing.

๐ Shared dormitory inside the UYSTO vocational center
๐๏ธ Bunk beds and wardrobes provided
๐ณ Shared kitchen, bathrooms, and common areas
๐ฝ๏ธ Weekday meals prepared by staff
๐ฅ Weekend meals self-managed (group cooking or individual)
Local markets are accessible and affordable, so daily life remains manageable.

๐ Must reside in eligible countries
๐ Completion of Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training required
โณ Total ESC participation must not exceed 12 months
