Expedition Dynamics is an Erasmus+ KA1 Training Course in Dilsen-Stokkem, Limburg, Belgium, designed for youth workers who want to experience, feel, reflect, and apply — not just listen. This is not a classroom course. Set in a camp environment away from WiFi and the noise of everyday life, you will explore group development stages, emotional intelligence, role recognition, and how to create safe and inclusive spaces for young people — through experiential activities, campfire conversations, reflection, and genuine connection with youth workers from across Europe. 🇧🇪 Did You Know? Dilsen-Stokkem is a municipality in the Limburg province of Belgium, situated along the Albert Canal near the Dutch and German borders. The area is part of the Maasland region — known for its tranquil landscape of rivers, nature reserves, and forests. It is one of the least-visited but most naturally beautiful corners of Belgium, making it a genuinely immersive setting for an outdoor experiential training focused on connection, reflection, and group work.

🎭The types of recurring roles that emerge naturally in groups — how to recognise them, how to influence groups in ways that support each person’s role and challenge their growth

💛How to support children and young people in recognising and understanding their emotions — and how to stay connected to your own feelings while working in emotionally charged environments

🛡️How to respond to strong emotional behaviour in groups — creating space for emotions without compromising safety or group cohesion

🌍How to promote and shape real connections and face-to-face friendships among young people — emphasising the value of genuine human interaction, community engagement, and group learning

🔄How to integrate emotional awareness and group dynamics practices into your own youth work context — exchanging challenges and approaches with fellow participants from different organisations and countries

💡 Did You Know? Group dynamics as a field of study was largely shaped by the work of Kurt Lewin — a German-American psychologist who pioneered the concept of action research and coined the term “group dynamics” in the 1940s. His work established that the behaviour of individuals within groups cannot be understood in isolation from the group’s structure, atmosphere, and stage of development — a foundational insight that still drives best practice in youth work, facilitation, and non-formal education across Europe today.

The Setting — No WiFi, No Distractions

🔥A campfire in the evenings, a big lake, music instruments, and the stories you share together — the training intentionally removes digital distractions to create space for genuine human connection and deep experiential learning

🌲All activities take place at the venue in Dilsen-Stokkem — an outdoor camp environment in the natural landscape of the Limburg region of Belgium

🌍You will be surrounded by youth workers from Belgium, Türkiye, Romania, Greece, Germany, Spain, Poland, and Bulgaria — an intentionally diverse group built for cross-cultural peer learning

Who Can Apply?

🤝You are a youth worker — paid or voluntary — aged 18 or older, actively working with young people in any context

💡You are curious about how group dynamics work and want to develop your capacity to observe, understand, and intentionally guide group processes

💛You want to deepen your emotional intelligence and develop personal strategies for emotional grounding and self-management in your youth work role

🌍You are open to learning by doing — surrounded by youth workers from across Europe in an immersive, outdoor, low-distraction environment
