This United Nations Internship is offered by the Department of Global Communications (DGC), within the News and Media Division โ UN News Section II (Chinese Language Unit), based in New York, United States ๐บ๐ธ.
The internship is hosted by the Chinese Language Unit, which produces news and feature stories for UN News across radio, video, photo, and web platforms. Interns will work directly under the supervision of the Chief of the Chinese Unit, contributing to multilingual global communication and UN media outputs.
This is an in-person internship at UN Headquarters.
๐งญ Main Duties & Responsibilities
๐ฐ Support the production of UN news and feature stories in Chinese
โ๏ธ Assist with editing, drafting, and preparing content for multimedia platforms
๐๏ธ Contribute to radio, video, photo, and web-based news content
๐ Support newsroom tasks related to research, coordination, and content preparation
๐ค Work closely with editors and media professionals in a multilingual UN newsroom
๐ Qualifications & Eligibility
โ๏ธ Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
โ Enrolled in or completed a Masterโs or PhD programme, or
โ Enrolled in or completed the final year of a Bachelorโs degree, or
โ Completed a Bachelorโs, Masterโs, or PhD programme
โ๏ธ Field of study must be closely related to the internship (journalism, media, communication, languages, international relations, or similar)
โ๏ธ No professional work experience required
โ๏ธ Strong computer skills, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams
โ๏ธ Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and produce high-quality outputs
โ๏ธ Proof of academic status will be required (official certificate at a later stage)
๐ Languages
๐ฃ๏ธ Fluency in English and Chinese is required
โ Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset
(Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish)
๐ Visa & Practical Information
โ๏ธ Interns who are not US citizens or permanent residents may need a G-4 visa
๐ Interns are responsible for travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses
