This United Nations Internship is offered by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), specifically within the Office of Intergovernmental Support and Coordination for Sustainable Development (OISC)and the Operational Activities Policy Branch (OAPB), based in New York, United States ๐บ๐ธ.
The internship provides a unique opportunity to work closely with UN senior officials and Member States, supporting intergovernmental processes, policy research, data analysis, and high-level meetings related to sustainable development and the UN development system.
This is a full-time, in-person internship (35 hours/week) with an expected duration of 3 months, with a possibility of extension.
๐งญ Main Duties & Responsibilities
๐ Conduct research on sustainable development and UN operational activities
๐ Analyse qualitative and quantitative data and prepare data visualisations & infographics
๐ Support drafting of Secretary-General reports and policy documents
๐ Assist with surveys related to UN development system operations
๐๏ธ Support organisation of high-level panels and ECOSOC / General Assembly meetings
๐ฃ๏ธ Follow intergovernmental negotiations and prepare summaries of discussions
โก Provide flexible support to senior UN officials as required
๐ Qualifications & Profile
โ๏ธ Enrolled in or completed:
โ A Masterโs or PhD programme, or
โ Final year of a Bachelorโs degree, or
โ Completed Bachelorโs, Masterโs or PhD
โ๏ธ Strong academic background relevant to international relations, development, economics, public policy, or related fields
โ๏ธ Excellent written English and drafting skills
โ๏ธ Strong ability to analyse, synthesise, and work independently
โ๏ธ Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
โ๏ธ Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to deliver high-quality outputs
โ๏ธ No prior professional experience required
๐ Languages
๐ฃ๏ธ Fluent English required
โ Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset (French, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, Russian)
๐ Visa & Practical Information
โ๏ธ Non-US citizens will require a G-4 visa for internships in the United States
๐ Interns must work 35+ hours per week to qualify
