🧩 Project Overview
This European Solidarity Corps individual volunteering opportunity is hosted by VEREIN SELBSTBESTIMMTES LERNEN E.V. and takes place at Freie Schule Brigach in St. Georgen, Germany 🇩🇪, located in the heart of the Black Forest.
The school offers an alternative, democratic learning model where around 30 children aged 6–18 learn in mixed-age groups and decide what and how they learn on a daily basis. Teachers act as facilitators, supporting children’s independent, self-responsible learning paths while meeting state curriculum requirements.
Volunteers become part of this educational community, contributing to learning processes, excursions, and self-initiated projects—while experiencing democratic participation in everyday school life.

🎓 Assisting during learning activities and classes
🧭 Supporting pupils during excursions and outdoor learning
💡 Initiating and developing personal projects with pupils

🏠 Accommodation, Food & Local Transport
🏡 Accommodation in a shared apartment with other young people in Villingen-Schwenningen

🍽️ Monthly food allowance provided
🚆 Public transport card allowing free travel across Germany
🎓 Training & Support During the Activity
📘 Welcome training at the beginning to clarify rights and responsibilities
🧠 Continuous professional support with regular reflection talks led by a neutral external facilitator
🗣️ Weekly German language course at the local adult education centre
🇪🇺 Participation in On-Arrival Training and Mid-Term Training organised by the German National Agency
