๐Ÿ“š About the Project
Hosted by Rietavo savivaldybฤ—s jaunimo organizacija “Progresas” in partnership with Plungฤ—s rajono savivaldybฤ—s vieลกoji biblioteka, this ESC volunteering experience takes place in Plungฤ—, Lithuania, inside a reconstructed historical castle with a clock tower and former orangery.
The library is a state-protected cultural heritage site belonging to the historic estate of Duke Mykolas Oginskis. It has become a modern, creative, and vibrant cultural space that challenges traditional library norms while offering unique opportunities for both locals and visitors.
Volunteers will participate in cultural activities, youth engagement, creative projects, and community learning inside one of the most inspiring libraries in Lithuania. ๐Ÿฐโœจ

๐ŸŽฏ What You Will Do
Volunteers support everyday library life and community engagement through:

  • Assisting with cultural, educational, and youth activities
  • Supporting library visitors, including foreign tourists
  • Helping organise workshops for children and young people
  • Contributing to exhibitions, creative events & cultural heritage promotion
  • Supporting information services and communication tasks
  • Helping implement activities based on volunteer interests (books, digital tools, arts, heritage, nature etc.)
    This role suits creative, curious volunteers who enjoy cultural spaces and want to make a meaningful impact. ๐Ÿ“–๐ŸŒ

๐Ÿ  Accommodation, Food & Transport

  • Accommodation provided in a guest house or apartment in Plungฤ—
  • Private room; shared bathroom, kitchen, and dining room
  • All main expenses covered: food, accommodation, travel, living costs

๐ŸŽ“ Training During the Activity
Volunteers receive:

  • Pre-departure training in their home country
  • On-arrival & mid-term training in Lithuania
  • Training on Youthpass, volunteering experience design, intercultural learning
  • Opportunities to learn about Lithuanian culture, traditions, and heritage
  • Guidance on organising childrenโ€™s activities, creative workshops, and local events

Ideal volunteers are:

  • Curious, motivated, proactive
  • Comfortable working both individually and in teams
  • Communicative and adaptable to new and different environments
  • Skilled in spoken/written English (other languages are a plus)
  • Interested in books, cultural heritage, nature, or creative spaces
