If your late summer is still open, the European Solidarity Corps can fill it with something that actually matters, and cover the cost while you do it. 🌍 This is a curated collection of 14 short and mid length ESC volunteering placements whose entire activity takes place between 1 August and 30 September 2026, across 8 countries: 🇹🇷 Türkiye, 🇬🇷 Greece, 🇵🇱 Poland, 🇫🇷 France, 🇭🇷 Croatia, 🇪🇸 Spain, 🇩🇪 Germany and 🇮🇹 Italy. Every one of them is still open for applications, and every one is fully funded.

These are not year long commitments. Most run from two weeks to around eight weeks, which makes them ideal for a gap between studies or jobs, a first taste of living abroad, or simply a meaningful way to spend the end of summer. 🐻 You could care for orphan bear cubs at a mountain refuge in Croatia, 🧱 help build a school from 4,000 handmade clay bricks in France, 🎭 work behind the scenes of a Spanish Civil War re enactment festival in Asturias, 🌊 live and garden on a UNESCO listed island in the Venetian Lagoon, or 🎬 run media and community projects in the heritage city of Gaziantep. 💶 What "Fully Funded" Means on ESC

The European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is an EU programme that lets young people volunteer abroad on projects run by hosting organisations across Europe and beyond. For standard volunteering, both individual and team placements, it is open to anyone aged 18 to 30 who is legally resident in an EU member state or a partner country and registered on the ESC Portal. On a fully funded ESC placement, the programme and host typically cover:

Welcome to Gaziantep, a Turkish city celebrated for its deep cultural heritage, world famous cuisine and warm atmosphere. 🌆 Hosted by a local foundation, this placement lets you shape your own experience across several fields. 🎥 Join the media centre to build real skills in content creation, video editing, photography and digital storytelling, with a professional TV studio and radio stations on site. 🎓 Or work with local students, sharing your background and supporting educational activities. 🎻 Beyond media, there is a rich sports and arts offer, from a gym, swimming pool and basketball court to guitar, piano, violin and bağlama courses. 💛 You will also contribute to community work: distributing humanitarian aid, offering psychosocial support to refugees and earthquake survivors, and joining environmental activities like tree planting in the foundation's forest.

Support the daily work of a Polish and Ukrainian Youth and Refugee Integration Centre in the mountain town of Rabka-Zdrój. 🏔️ The centre grew out of a 2023 project in which young volunteers renovated an old building, now a lively hub for Polish and Ukrainian young people alike. Through non formal learning, cultural exchange, 💬 psychological support and community driven initiatives, you help young people build skills and resilience. On arrival you receive training in youth work methods, event planning and mental health support.

Join a unique international workcamp and help build the school of tomorrow. 🏫 Working alongside local residents and municipal staff, you produce around 4,000 eco friendly clay bricks using traditional, low impact techniques and locally sourced materials. 🧱 Supported by trained staff, you learn each step of clay brick making: preparing the soil, mixing it with water and natural fibres, filling and compacting the moulds, demoulding, and drying the bricks naturally. Join a 30 day ESC team project in central Türkiye focused on disasters, resilience and active citizenship. 🧯 Ten young volunteers per team train together on disaster preparedness, climate change, post disaster recovery and community resilience, through workshops, field visits and simulations covering first aid, mountaineering, search and rescue and missing person search. 📣 You then run training sessions, events and awareness campaigns for local children, young people and adults.

🇭🇷 Croatia: Caring for Orphan Bears at a Mountain Refuge in Kuterevo 🐻

Volunteer at a bear refuge in a mountain village inside the Velebit Biosphere Reserve. 🏔️ Since 2002 the hosting association has run a refuge for orphan bear cubs and currently cares for nine adult bears, while promoting the coexistence of civilisation and wilderness. 🐾 As part of the team you support the refuge, help with animal care, and improve and maintain the facilities, learning bear biology, safe tool use and how to build with stone. 🏺 Hands on extras include a visit to local beekeepers, pottery and wool felting workshops, and the local Mountain Spirit ceremony.

Every September, a village in Asturias travels back to the Spanish Civil War during its Re enactment Days, bringing history alive through rigorous civil and military recreations. 🏕️ As a volunteer you are not acting; you are the backbone of the festival, in a demanding, physical setup and logistics project. 🔨 Your tasks include preparing the settings (including heavy work like filling sawdust sacks), assembling immersive scenes alongside the crew, managing crowds during public events, and assisting behind the scenes so everything runs smoothly.

🇬🇷 Greece: Natural Building and Rural Restoration near Agrinio 🪵

This project promotes sustainable rural development through natural building and environmental restoration in a small Greek mountain village. 🏚️ Volunteers help renovate the village's former primary school into a guest house, using woodworking, natural building, traditional stone construction, dry stone walling and DIY techniques. 🥾 You also restore the historic hiking trail that generations of local children once walked to school. Living on site, you develop green skills while leaving a lasting positive impact.

Work with clay, traditional building methods and nature conservation at an international workcamp with two taskforces. 🔥 In a cultural centre set in a former brickworks, you re point the masonry of a historic ring kiln and carry out landscape conservation. 🍕 In a forest nature conservation centre, you help build a clay oven that will later bake pizza and bread with visitors on public baking days. Alongside the work there are many other activities to enjoy on site.

This project unfolds on an island a fifteen minute boat ride from the mainland, the only outpost of the Province of Padua within the Venetian Lagoon, inside a UNESCO World Heritage valley spanning over 1,600 hectares. 🌿 As one of seven volunteers, your tasks include gardening and helping create the lagoon botanical gardens, painting wooden window frames and minor DIY jobs, assisting with livestock farming and fishing, and helping with household chores and guest reception. 🛶 A few cultural activities also take place nearby. A rare chance to live in the magical, secluded southern Venice Lagoon, with Chioggia, Venice and Padua within reach.
