๐Ÿ”ท Activity Details

Description

The volunteering ESC Team Project will take place in Casone Millecampi (https://isolamillecampi.it/), located on an island a 15-minute boat ride from the mainland. Isola Millecampi is the only outpost of the Province of Padua within the Venetian Lagoon, inside the beautiful Valle Millecampi in the municipality of Codevigo. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is a natural oasis spanning over 1,600 hectares.Casone Millecampi also functions as a historical exposition of the province, preserving and showcasing the local culture, ancient fishing traditions and the historical rural life of the Paduan lagoon area. Volunteers tasks will be:gardening and assistance in creating the Laguna botanical gardens, painting wooden window frames and/or minor DIY and painting jobs (if able-bodied), assistance with livestock farming and/or fishing on the island, assistance with household chores and guest reception. Some cultural activities (2/3 days) might also take place in Cason delle Sacche.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The group of 7 volunteers will be accommodated in Casone Millecampi which offers 2 bedrooms, shared bathrooms, a professional kitchen, wifi and laundry. Meals will be shared with the family adopting a community and sustainable-focused lifestyle. A dog, 3 cats and 2 chickens are also part of the family. Volunteers are offered a unique natural experience in the magical and secluded setting of the Southern Venice Lagoon. The touristic area in the nearby includes: Chioggia, the Lido of Venice (beaches area), Venice island, the villas of the Riviera del Brenta, Padua, and the Euganean Hills.

Training during the activity

Casone Millecampi offers different outdoor activities organized by the island manager who lives there with his family (his wife and 2 children aged 4 and 6): kayaking and fishing, educational activities for schools and families, and complementary catering for visits to the crab farm and scale fishing at the Lagoon Museum (currently under construction).

Participant profile

Volunteers from diverse backgrounds, regardless of age, gender, previous experience, educational path, or other personal characteristics, are welcome to apply. No discrimination will be made on the basis of gender, religion, political beliefs, or sexual orientation. Knowledge of the Italian language will be considered an asset, but it is not a mandatory requirement. Volunteers will be selected based on their motivation, interest in the host organization's field of work, and their willingness to actively engage in and contribute to the project. We value a high level of motivation to experience communal living and sharing with all members of the place, along with consistent commitment. Given the wild nature of the environment, it is expected that the volunteer will have a respect for and interest in natural places, valuing their preservation and mindful enjoyment.
