Sun, sea, rock climbing, coastal paddling, and social impact — all in one ESC placement. Active Zone Outdoor in Larnaka, Cyprus is looking for two motivated volunteers aged 18 to 30 to join their outdoor sports and inclusion programme. You’ll lead activities for youth and people with disabilities, design community events, and use sport and nature as powerful tools for social change — all under the Mediterranean sun.
🌍 Did You Know? Larnaka is one of Cyprus’s oldest continuously inhabited cities, with a history stretching back over 3,000 years. It sits on the southern coast of the island and is home to the iconic Salt Lake — a protected wetland that hosts thousands of flamingos every winter — as well as some of the best diving and watersports spots in the eastern Mediterranean.
What Will You Do?
🧗 Lead and participate in outdoor activities including rock climbing, coastal paddling, and hiking on scenic trails around Cyprus
♿ Facilitate inclusive outdoor activities for young people and people with disabilities, promoting physical and mental health through sport
🎪 Help design, organise, and host community events and sports workshops
📱 Support social media management and awareness-raising for the organisation’s activities
🌍 Collaborate across cultures in a dynamic and international volunteer environment
🌱 Contribute to environmental protection activities linked to the outdoor programme
🎓 Participate in non-formal education sessions and project management training throughout the placement
🌍 Did You Know? Sport-based inclusion programmes have been shown to significantly improve social cohesion, mental health, and quality of life for young people with disabilities. Outdoor activities in particular — from hiking to climbing — build confidence, resilience, and teamwork in ways that traditional classroom or indoor settings often cannot replicate, making projects like this one genuinely transformative.
Who Can Apply?
🎂 Aged 18 to 30 and residing in one of the eligible ESC countries
🏃 Passionate about sport, outdoor activities, and using physical activity as a tool for social inclusion
♿ Motivated to work with young people with fewer opportunities and people with disabilities
💡 Determined, proactive, and eager to learn new skills in project management, event organisation, and non-formal education
🌍 Open to intercultural exchange and collaborative working in an international environment
📱 Comfortable with or willing to learn social media content creation and digital communication
Accommodation, Food & Travel
🏠 Private single bedroom in a spacious 4-bedroom, 300m² house in Larnaka shared with other volunteers
💶 Monthly allowance of €400 (food and pocket money combined) paid within the first 3 working days of each month
✈️ Travel expenses reimbursed in line with European Commission guidelines
