At the Adventure Playground of Pรฉri in Liรจge, children and young people come to create, build, play, and grow โ in a space that puts democratic participation and imagination at the centre of everything. This European Solidarity Corps opportunity invites a creative, outdoor-loving volunteer to bring their own ideas and skills to life alongside the kids, facilitating workshops, games, and community events in one of Belgium’s most vibrant and multicultural cities.
๐ Did You Know? Liรจge is one of Belgium’s largest and most historically rich cities, situated at the confluence of the Meuse and Ourthe rivers in the heart of Wallonia. Known for its lively street culture, vibrant nightlife, and the famous Sunday market La Batte โ one of the oldest and largest open-air markets in Europe โ Liรจge has a warm, working-class soul that makes it one of Belgium’s most authentic cities to live in.
What Will You Do?
๐จ Launch, lead, and follow artistic workshops โ painting, sculpture, serigraphy, and more โ with children and young people at the Adventure Playground
๐ณ Facilitate creative and participative workshops including cooking, sewing, handicraft, shed building, storytelling, and wild plant preparation
โฝ Organise and lead outdoor games, sports games, and table games for children
๐ฑ Run outdoor activities such as nature discovery and gardening sessions
๐ณ๏ธ Introduce democratic participation to children โ giving them the right and space to choose, propose, and co-create activities
๐ง Help with maintenance of the playground including small repairs, painting, and grass cutting
๐ช Support special events and partner projects such as carnival, city festivals, shed symposiums, and residential camps
๐ Did You Know? Adventure playgrounds โ where children are free to build, dig, light fires, and take risks in a supervised but unstructured environment โ originated in Denmark in the 1940s. Today they are recognised worldwide as powerful spaces for child-led learning, creativity, and resilience-building that traditional playgrounds simply cannot replicate.
Who Can Apply?
๐ Aged 18โ30 and residing in one of the eligible ESC countries
๐จ Interested in animation, creative activities, and working with children and teenagers
๐ฟ Comfortable working outdoors in all kinds of weather โ a significant part of the role takes place outside
๐ก Creative, proactive, and ready to bring your own ideas and initiatives to the playground
๐ซ๐ท Motivated to learn French โ language classes are available throughout the volunteering period
๐ค Flexible and open to adapting activities based on the children’s needs and preferences
Accommodation, Food & Travel
๐ Private room in a fully-equipped shared house or apartment in Liรจge, within walking distance of the Adventure Playground
๐ฝ๏ธ Monthly food budget provided โ volunteers manage their own meals independently
๐ถ Pocket money provided for personal expenses throughout the entire activity, including holidays
โ๏ธ Travel costs covered in line with ESC programme rules โ participation is free of charge except for any exceptional travel contribution
Training & Learning
๐ On-arrival and mid-term trainings organised by the French-speaking National Agency of Belgium
๐ค Get Together seminars organised by the coordinating organisation Compagnons Bรขtisseurs Belgium (CBB)
๐ International leader training organised by CBB, held twice a year
๐ซ๐ท French language classes available throughout the volunteering period
