Project SOLARIC is looking for one dedicated volunteer to spend six months working alongside local teams at two community centres in Nansana, Uganda โ€” supporting children with dyslexia, sensory impairments, and mobility challenges. This is a rare ESC opportunity outside of Europe, placing you at the front line of inclusive education in East Africa.

๐ŸŒ Did You Know? Kampala, Uganda’s capital, sits across several hills on the northern shores of Lake Victoria โ€” the world’s largest tropical lake and the source of the White Nile. It is one of Africa’s fastest-growing cities, with a youthful, vibrant population and a rich cultural heritage.

What Will You Do?

๐Ÿ“š Prepare materials and assist in educational activities at the Centre for Special Abilities (CeSA) and Doreah Child Care Uganda (DCCU)
๐ŸŽฎ Support children with dyslexia, sensory, and mobility impairments through indoor and outdoor games and leisure activities
๐Ÿ“– Engage children through reading, storytelling and creative writing activities
๐ŸŽต Organise and facilitate music, dance and drama workshops for children
๐Ÿฅ Deliver sessions on community mobilisation, children’s health sensitisation and rights advocacy
๐Ÿค Work alongside local team members and contribute to a culture of inclusion and dignity for children with special needs
๐ŸŒ Did You Know? Uganda has one of the highest rates of children with disabilities in Sub-Saharan Africa who are out of school. Community-based organisations like CeSA and DCCU play a critical role in bridging this gap โ€” providing specialised education and care that state systems are often unable to offer.
