🇬🇭 Did You Know? Ghana is widely regarded as one of the most stable and welcoming countries in West Africa — it was the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence from colonial rule in 1957, under the leadership of Kwame Nkrumah. What Will You Do?
🏫Assist with teaching and educational support in local schools — contributing to equal access to quality education for children and young people in the Asikuma community
🏥Assist healthcare professionals in local health facilities — supporting the delivery of healthcare services to community members in need
🔨Support infrastructure projects that contribute to the physical development and resilience of the community
🗣️Provide language aid and communication support — helping bridge language gaps within the community and project activities
👧Facilitate youth programmes that empower young people — with a particular focus on girls, gender equality, mentorship, and the creation of safe spaces
🔬Conduct research to support project planning and community development initiatives — contributing evidence and analysis to improve programme outcomes
💡 Did You Know? The ICYE (International Cultural Youth Exchange) network — which manages this project through ICJE Ghana — is one of the oldest international youth exchange organisations in the world, founded in 1949. It operates in over 40 countries and has placed tens of thousands of volunteers in community development roles globally. Joining this programme means becoming part of one of the most established and respected humanitarian volunteering networks on the planet.
Accommodation, Food & Travel
🏠Private room provided — just a 15-minute walk from the project site. Living alongside both local and international volunteers allows for quick and genuine integration into community life
🍽️Meals provided at home by the project in collaboration with ICYE Ghana — food is fully covered throughout the placement
💰Monthly pocket money of €200 provided for personal expenses
✈️Travel support provided in accordance with ESC Humanitarian Aid programme rules
Training & Learning
💻Pre-departure training provided online before you leave — arriving prepared and informed from day one
🌍On-arrival training in Ghana to support your integration into community activities and the local context
👤A dedicated mentor supports you daily throughout the placement — ensuring smooth integration and ongoing personal development
📋Mid-term evaluation training after 4–5 months, followed by a final evaluation before departure — structured reflection built throughout the experience
🔄A follow-up meeting takes place 2–3 months after returning home — supporting your reintegration and continued development
