What Will You Do?
๐Act as a cultural ambassador for your country โ organising intercultural evenings where students discover your home country and other European cultures through geography, culture, current laws, and social topics
๐ฌLead linguistic animation sessions in collaboration with English teachers during classes and evenings โ bringing your language skills directly into the classroom
๐ญOrganise thematic evenings and leisure-time activities for students โ creative, engaging events outside of regular class hours
โ๏ธParticipate in workshops that prepare students for their first international mobility โ helping young people get ready for intercultural experiences of their own
๐คJoin monthly collective activities with other European volunteers in Lyon โ including trainings, workshops, and events organised by the coordinating team
๐ก Did You Know? MFR (Maison Familiale Rurale) schools are a uniquely French educational model โ they combine school-based learning with workplace experience in a residential setting, originally designed to serve rural youth. There are over 400 MFRs across France, and they remain one of the country’s most distinctive approaches to vocational and agricultural education. Volunteering in one gives you a window into a side of French education that most foreigners never see.
Accommodation, Food & Travel
๐ซMain accommodation at MFR du Domaine de la Saulsaie in Montluel โ used from Monday evening to Thursday during mission days
๐๏ธWeekend and holiday accommodation in a shared apartment in Oullins โ just 15 minutes from Lyon city centre by metro, available from Thursday evening to Monday morning
๐ฝ๏ธFood is provided as part of the placement
๐Local transport costs are covered throughout the placement
โ๏ธTravel support provided in accordance with ESC programme rules
Training & Learning
๐๏ธ35 hours per week distributed over 4 days โ Monday to Thursday, with holidays when the MFR is closed and on all national holidays
๐คMonthly meetings with the European volunteer team in Lyon โ peer learning, shared trainings, workshops, and events with other ESC volunteers in the region

Who Can Apply?
๐ฃ๏ธGood French and English are both required โ the working environment is predominantly French-speaking, and communication with students and staff will be primarily in French

๐ฏYou have a sense of organisation, anticipation, and adaptability โ the role requires initiative and flexibility in a varied school setting
