Do you speak both French and English, love working with young people, and want to represent your country as a cultural ambassador in a French school? This ESC individual volunteering placement near Lyon puts you inside MFR du Domaine de la Saulsaie โ€” a rural school in Montluel โ€” where you will lead intercultural evenings, support English classes, organise thematic activities for students, and connect monthly with other European volunteers in Lyon. Two accommodations provided: a room at the school during the week, and a shared apartment just 15 minutes from Lyon city centre for weekends. Deadline: 24 March 2026 at 08:00.
๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท Did You Know? Lyon is France’s third-largest city and is widely considered the gastronomic capital of the country โ€” it has more Michelin-starred restaurants per capita than any other city in the world. Beyond food, it is a UNESCO World Heritage city with a stunning Renaissance old town, sitting at the confluence of the Rhรดne and Saรดne rivers. Volunteering near Lyon means weekends in one of Europe’s most beautiful and culturally rich urban environments.

What Will You Do?

๐ŸŒAct as a cultural ambassador for your country โ€” organising intercultural evenings where students discover your home country and other European cultures through geography, culture, current laws, and social topics
๐Ÿ’ฌLead linguistic animation sessions in collaboration with English teachers during classes and evenings โ€” bringing your language skills directly into the classroom
๐ŸŽญOrganise thematic evenings and leisure-time activities for students โ€” creative, engaging events outside of regular class hours
โœˆ๏ธParticipate in workshops that prepare students for their first international mobility โ€” helping young people get ready for intercultural experiences of their own
๐ŸคJoin monthly collective activities with other European volunteers in Lyon โ€” including trainings, workshops, and events organised by the coordinating team
๐Ÿ’ก Did You Know? MFR (Maison Familiale Rurale) schools are a uniquely French educational model โ€” they combine school-based learning with workplace experience in a residential setting, originally designed to serve rural youth. There are over 400 MFRs across France, and they remain one of the country’s most distinctive approaches to vocational and agricultural education. Volunteering in one gives you a window into a side of French education that most foreigners never see.
