Gain hands-on experience in international communication, leadership support, and global NGO management! The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) invites applications for its Executive Leadership Support & Communication Internship at the DRC Headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark for Spring 2026.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to support DRC’s Secretary General’s Office and Global Communications Team, working directly with top management and global humanitarian staff across DRC’s operations in over 40 countries.
💼 About DRC:
Founded in 1956, the Danish Refugee Council is one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, working to protect refugees and displaced people. The Secretary General’s Office provides strategic and administrative support to DRC’s Executive Management Team, Board of Directors, and global leadership network.
🌍 About the Internship:
As part of the Secretary General’s Office and Global Communications Team, the intern will contribute to strategic communications, leadership messaging, global event coordination, and organizational storytelling. You’ll also collaborate with humanitarian professionals across DRC’s four core sectors: Protection, Economic Recovery, Humanitarian Disarmament & Peacebuilding, and WASH/Shelter/Infrastructure.
🧭 Main Responsibilities:
- Support leadership communication and content planning for strategic decisions.
- Draft, edit, and adapt internal communication materials for global audiences.
- Assist with global meetings and events: planning, minute-taking, logistics, and follow-ups.
- Collect stories, interviews, and photos from DRC field offices for communication campaigns.
- Support day-to-day tasks of the Secretary General’s Office, including meeting preparation and travel coordination.
- Work closely with the Executive Assistant to the Secretary General and the Internal Communications Advisor.
🎓 Who Can Apply:
- Must be currently enrolled in a university (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Communications, Journalism, Political Science, International Relations, Development, or related fields.
- Strong communication and writing skills in English (Danish, French, or Spanish are assets).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office / 365 (SharePoint, Teams, etc.).
- Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Interest in global development, humanitarian work, and strategic communication.
📅 Internship Details:
- Start Date: Late January / early February 2026 (flexible).
- Duration: 4–6 months (depending on academic requirements).
- Hours: ~32 hours per week (flexible with studies).
- Location: DRC Headquarters, Lyngbyvej 100, Copenhagen.
- Compensation:Unpaid internship.
- Benefits include free lunch at the HQ canteen, participation in social events, and 2.08 vacation days per month.
- DRC supports visa applications if required (processing may take up to three months).
