The municipality of Sundsvall, Sweden is looking for 3 individual ESC volunteers to bring their cultures, creativity, and energy into local youth activities. Through this long-term volunteering project, you will offer creative leisure engagements β from filming and arts to working with children with disabilities β in a welcoming, inclusive environment rooted in solidarity and European values. This is a unique opportunity to spend close to a year in Sweden, learn Swedish, and make a real difference in the lives of young people in a vibrant Nordic city.

Sundsvall is a city on Sweden’s High Coast β a UNESCO World Heritage Site β known for its beautifully preserved late 19th-century stone city centre, built after a catastrophic fire in 1888. Surrounded by forests, rivers, and the Gulf of Bothnia, it offers an exceptional quality of life and is one of Sweden’s most distinctive cities for anyone seeking an authentic Nordic experience beyond the major capitals.
What Will You Do?
π Creative Leisure Activities: Offer and lead creative leisure engagements for young people in Sundsvall municipality β activities shaped by the participants’ own needs, interests, and your personal talents and cultural background.
π¬ Filming & Media: Use your interest in filming and media to create engaging content and activities for and with the young people you work alongside.
βΏ Work with Children with Disabilities: Support and engage children with physical or psychological disabilities in inclusive leisure activities, contributing to a genuinely accessible and welcoming youth environment.
π Cultural Influence & Exchange: Bring your own experiences, knowledge, and cultural perspective into the activities β helping young people in Sundsvall develop broader views on democracy, European citizenship, and cultural diversity.
ποΈ Activity Organisation: Help plan, organise, and run youth activities independently and as part of the team, contributing your own ideas and approaches throughout the project.
ποΈ Seminars & Learning: Participate in on-arrival and midterm seminars organised by the Swedish National Agency in Stockholm, as well as pre-arrival and midterm seminars arranged by the national organisation.

β€οΈ Passion for People & Young People: A genuine and strong interest in working with people in general, and young people in particular, is the most important quality for this role.
π¬ Interest in Filming & Organising: A background or interest in filming, creative activities, and event/activity organisation is highly valued.
βΏ Openness to Disability Work: Willingness and motivation to work with children with disabilities in an inclusive and supportive way.
π‘ Independent & Motivated: Ability to work independently and proactively, while maintaining a genuine curiosity and drive to learn new things throughout the experience.
π Erasmus+ Ambassador: Motivation to promote the Erasmus+ programme and European youth policies within the local community during the project.

Full Year Commitment: The organisation is specifically looking for volunteers who can commit to the full duration of the project. Applications must be written in English.

Accommodation, Food & Travel
π Accommodation: Volunteers are housed in a fully equipped 4-room apartment β each volunteer has their own private room, plus one shared room for common activities, a kitchen, and a bathroom.
π½οΈ Food & Personal Expenses: Approximately 5,000 SEK per month is provided to cover food and personal expenses throughout the project.
βοΈ Travel: Return travel to and from Sundsvall is booked and paid for by the receiving organisation.
π Swedish Language Learning: Volunteers have the opportunity to learn Swedish through SFI (Swedish for Immigrants) classes during the project β a fantastic bonus for anyone wanting to develop language skills in Scandinavia.

πΈπͺ Swedish Language (SFI): Structured Swedish language learning through the official SFI (Swedish for Immigrants) programme β a genuinely valuable addition to your personal and professional development.
ποΈ National Seminars: Participation in on-arrival and midterm seminars organised by the Swedish National Agency, as well as pre-arrival and midterm seminars by the national organisation, held in Stockholm.
π± Non-Formal Learning: Ongoing development of skills in creativity, youth work, inclusion, intercultural communication, and community engagement through day-to-day project activities.
