Are you passionate about leadership development, foreign policy, and international relations — and looking for a paid, full-time internship in Washington D.C. at one of the world’s most respected strategic policy institutions? The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is looking for a motivated intern to support the Abshire-Inamori Leadership Academy (AILA) and the Executive Education Program — delivering leadership training, ethics workshops, foreign policy seminars, and crisis simulations for global leaders, government officials, and university groups. The role covers event management, social media content, programme operations, outreach, market research, and more. Paid hourly. Starting May 2026. Deadline: 22 March 2026.

What Will You Do?
🎪Provide event management support for AILA and Executive Education programming — helping design, coordinate, and deliver leadership seminars, crisis simulations, and skill-building workshops for global leaders and government officials
📱Create content for AILA and Executive Education’s social media accounts — translating programme activity into engaging, professional digital communications
📊Compile and manage data on CSIS programming — tracking activity, participants, and outcomes to support programme evaluation and reporting
🗂️Assist with programme operations and administration — supporting the smooth day-to-day running of a fast-paced executive education environment
📧Organise outreach efforts — including writing newsletters and other communication materials for programme audiences
🔍Survey market competition and prospective donors — contributing to the programme’s strategic positioning and funding development
📚Conduct background research on programming, learning and development best practices, and marketing strategies — feeding directly into programme design and delivery
💡 Did You Know? The Abshire-Inamori Leadership Academy takes its name from two remarkable figures: David Abshire — a co-founder of CSIS and former US Ambassador to NATO — and Kazuo Inamori, the legendary Japanese entrepreneur and philosopher who built Kyocera and KDDI from nothing and later rescued Japan Airlines from bankruptcy. Inamori’s philosophy of ethical leadership and servant management became central to AILA’s mission, making it one of the few leadership programmes in the US foreign policy world that explicitly combines strategic thinking with moral philosophy.
Eligibility & Requirements
🎓Strong demonstrated interest in learning and development, education, and/or event management — combined with an interest in foreign policy or international relations
✍️Outstanding written and oral communication skills in a professional setting — this is a writing and communication-heavy role
🎯Strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment — enthusiasm for challenging, creative assignments
🎪Event management and/or project coordination experience is preferred — in any relevant setting
📍Must be able to report to work on-site at CSIS headquarters in Washington, D.C. — this is a full-time, in-person position
Compensation
💰Paid hourly — $18.00/hour for current undergraduate hires, $19.00/hour for hires with a bachelor’s degree, $20.00/hour for hires with a master’s degree
📅Full-time, in-person position starting May 2026 for a period of 6 months
