This European Solidarity Corps โ Individual Volunteering (Humanitarian Aid) opportunity is implemented by ENGIM โ ENTE NAZIONALE GIUSEPPINI DEL MURIALDO in cooperation with PAKASHKA-SACHA, and takes place in Tena, Ecuador ๐ช๐จ, in the heart of the Amazon region.
The project aims to protect the biodiversity of the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest while preserving local indigenous cultural heritage, using education as a key tool for empowerment, awareness, and long-term sustainability. Volunteers support indigenous youth in vocational training and higher education, contribute to intercultural exchange, and engage directly in environmental and community-based activities.
๐ฏ Main Activities & Responsibilities
๐ฟ Assisting with the daily life and care of the student residence and surrounding primary forest
๐ Supporting vocational training, tutoring, and educational guidance for indigenous youth
๐ซ Assisting teachers in rural schools with academic programmes and tutoring children
๐ฌ๐ง Collaborating with an English school, delivering English classes for children and adults
๐๏ธ Supporting administrative and communication tasks of the centre
๐ฑ Participating in environmental engagement and awareness activities
๐ค Contributing to intercultural exchange and community development initiatives
๐ Accommodation, Food & Living Conditions
๐ก Accommodation provided in the student residence, which also functions as a training centre and meeting space
๐ฝ๏ธ Food fully provided and shared with other residents
๐ถ Monthly allowance of โฌ680, covering daily expenses and local transport
๐ป Laptop provided
๐ฑ Mobile phone expenses reimbursed
โ ๏ธ Basic utilities available, with possible interruptions due to local conditions
๐ Flexible working hours, including occasional weekend work depending on activities
๐ Training & Support During the Activity
๐ Pre-departure training on humanitarian principles, security, and programme-specific topics
๐ Pre-departure training on the political and cultural context of Ecuador
๐ฑ On-site training on intercultural approaches, the Ecuadorian education system, and biodiversity conservation
๐ Access to continuous learning resources
๐ค Regular briefings and mentoring with ENGIM technical and social staff
๐ค Participant Profile
๐ 18โ35 years old
๐ Willing to live in a rural area with limited leisure opportunities
๐ค Open-minded, flexible, and comfortable in multicultural and shared living environments
๐ฆ๏ธ Able to adapt to demanding weather conditions and fieldwork realities
๐ Background or degree in languages, education, environmental sciences, or related fields
๐ถ Experience in teaching children or working with youth is an asset
๐ฃ๏ธ Spanish B1 minimum and English B2 minimum (only Spanish and English spoken in the residence)
๐ป Good knowledge of MS Office
๐ฑ Strong interpersonal, intercultural communication, and teamwork skills
โ ๏ธ Must follow strict safety protocols and maintain a modest lifestyle
