To qualify, applicants must:

๐Ÿ”น Be citizens of an African country (including African refugees or those forcibly displaced within Africa; dual citizens or permanent residents of the US/Canada/EU/UK are not eligible).
๐Ÿ”น Be academically talented and first gain admission to a UC Berkeley masterโ€™s programme.
๐Ÿ”น Demonstrate leadership potential, ethical engagement, and the ability to inspire positive change.
๐Ÿ”น Have experienced significant barriers to higher education (financial, social, personal, structural, health-related).
๐Ÿ”น Show commitment to community impact through activism, volunteering, social engagement, or professional initiatives.
๐Ÿ”น Intend to return to their home country after completing their degree to contribute to local or continental transformation.

Priority is given to applicants who:
โ€“ Completed their undergraduate degree in Africa
โ€“ Do not already hold a postgraduate degree
โ€“ Have not previously received a Mastercard Foundation Scholarship
