What Is Volunteer Wave About?
Volunteer Wave is a youth exchange in Paphos about volunteering, inclusion and personal growth. Through creative workshops and teamwork, participants discover how to get involved in their communities and connect with peers from other countries. The infopack presents it as "A Journey for personal growth", and the topics of the exchange are:
๐ซถ Inclusion and Diversity
๐คฒ Solidarity and Community
If this is your first exchange, our guide explains what an Erasmus+ Youth Exchange is and how it works.
An Erasmus+ Accredited Youth Project
Volunteer Wave is an Erasmus+ accredited youth project. The organisers' accreditation in the field of youth has the following objectives:
๐ฑ Strengthen the personal and professional development of young people through non-formal and informal learning mobility activities
๐ช Foster the empowerment of young people, their active citizenship and participation in democratic life
๐๏ธ Foster quality development of youth work at local, regional, national, European and international level by building the capacity of organisations
๐งก Promote inclusion and diversity, intercultural dialogue and the values of solidarity and equal opportunities among peers in Europe
Read more about how Erasmus+ accreditation works for youth organisations.
The Challenges Behind the Project
Volunteer Wave responds to several challenges affecting young people in relation to volunteering, participation and personal development. Young people reported limited opportunities to develop practical competences such as teamwork, leadership, communication and problem-solving through experiential learning. The project sets out to change this and help participants enhance these skills.
Project Objectives
1๏ธโฃ Raise awareness and understanding to face discrimination while promoting inclusion, tolerance and intercultural respect
2๏ธโฃ Develop youth advocacy and leadership skills and empower young people to become active agents of change in their communities
3๏ธโฃ Encourage cultural exchange and use digital tools and social media for awareness and action
Expected Results
The exchange aims to:
๐ Increase young people's awareness to fight discrimination
๐งญ Strengthen their leadership and advocacy skills
๐ Promote intercultural inclusion
๐ฃ Generate local and online actions for tolerance
๐ Create a lasting youth network committed to equality
Five Days of Activities
The programme runs over five days of activities built on non-formal education:
๐ Building trust and Welcoming Session: an introduction to the programme and the activities
๐ธ Multi-cultural activities: storytelling through photography and creative expression, beginning to explore how visual narratives can raise awareness
๐ฒ Games to get to know each other and trust-building: interactive learning using non-formal education strategies
๐ง Going beyond Stereotypes: critical thinking development through balanced discussions
๐ผ๏ธ Photo Voice Exhibition: curating photos, designing exhibition spaces, creating captions and preparing interactive corners
โ๏ธ Discrimination: understanding real issues, finding realistic, actionable solutions and showing them off
๐ญ Practical sessions: action plans, roleplaying, fun games, intercultural exchange and Youthpass
๐ญ Reflections: sharing the best moments of the youth exchange experience and recognising personal growth with Youthpass
The daily programme will be provided soon, and the organisers note that there might be minor changes. This way of learning by doing is the heart of non-formal education.
