Every one of them is a European Solidarity Corps placement, which means the funding is real: travel within the usual distance bands, accommodation, food, local transport, insurance, pocket money, a mentor and language support are covered, for volunteers aged 18 to 30. Spend a month in a team learning to face disasters and help others do the same. Ten volunteers train together on disaster preparedness, climate change, post disaster recovery and community resilience, backed by workshops, seminars, field visits, simulations and even mountaineering and search and rescue practice. At a vocational school and consultation centre dedicated to getting disadvantaged and disabled young people into training and employment, you will mainly help with the German language course and lend a hand in the professional orientation classes, while getting to know the many pathways the institution opens up. The reach is genuinely global for a European programme: eight countries stretching from Uganda and Jordan to Martinique in the Caribbean, alongside Lithuania, Türkiye, Italy, Germany and Belgium.
